Fallen in Love
Fallen in Love
I've fallen in love with a silver 993 turbo with black rims It's got 62k miles on it, I want to love it forever, what do you guys suggest? Replace turbos?

I don't know any history of the car, no idea if PPI has been done, no leakdown or compression tests, just love at first site - posted for a hair under 60k$
Not sure, I found a M3 V8 for a little cheaper, but I want more of a drivers car
- Valve gaskets
- valve covers
- oil + filter
- spark plugs
- Replace fuel filter
- Change belts
- Change trans fluid
- Flush brake fluid
- Replace dist. cap
- Replace engine air filter
- Replace cabin (2) filters
- Do the 996TT oil line check valves
- Cylinder head temp sensor> #3 cylinder
- knock sensors
- New MAF
- throttle position sensor
- MAP, temperature sensor

I am still trying to find out more information regarding the car, and regarding 993 Turbos in general
This will be my first "older" car, especially out of warranty I am not sure what to expect. Working on setting aside a budget for any 'unfortunate' but expected events. Proper planning prevents **** poor performance!

Sure seems like a beauty. Not suitable as a DD (IMHO) but otherwise head and shoulders ahead of that V8 you mention. But not sure what you are asking regarding replacing the turbos, etc.
Ensure you have a competent Porsche shop or dealer do a thorough PPI including the tests you mention. Take it for a modest drive (to make sure you like it, not to test the car - that's the role of the PPI). If it is owned by a 6Speed member, then you likely can get the details and history, and discuss with others the care and pedigree of the car.
I do agree with the other post. These cars are likely to gain in value over time. Surely won't lose much. They don't drive like a 'modern' car, but that's part of the fun. And setting aside a repair budget, if you require it, is a very good idea.

I could not agree more...
thats my car :)
Was for sale. Nobody came through on the purchase. So... Now it's a different animal.
Not sure who started the thread but... If they still want the car call me before this machine gets too bananas in the rebuild process. Hence Price will go up. Car includes two sets of wheels. Both are turbo twist hollow spokes (993 and 996) also have another set of 996 18" wheels but they would have to substitute for one of the black pairs as we need a set for our 996 to roll on (2003 Carrera with 15k mi.)
At the time of this photo I had over 30k in receipts of maintenance and parts in the past 3 years. the turbos were also brand new. Now add another 20k in receipts to that Newer bigger turbos and a lot more goodies.
to answer any PPI questions, The car has been torn all the way down to the crank, anything that could or would need replacement was done. Including intermediate shaft seals.
It has a full host of racing suspension mods, H&R cup coilover set, Fabspeed bypass, leather wrapped stereo, K16/24's (K24/20g's now
) auxillary oiler cooler, 97 ECU, Fresh cylinder heads and top end valvetrain along with HT2 EVO cams, All work done by Motorwerk Houston and Protomotive, a lot of other goodies too much to list.

Newbie chimes in
As a new guy here... and a guy looking to re-enter the Porsche market after raising 3 kids, yaddah yaddah, I have my eye on this car too. Not this exact car, but a 993 or is possibly an "S" Turbo. I rode in one for a brief trip several years ago... and I was so impressed and I never grabbed the steering wheel? They are soooo Porsche... ya know what I mean. Any rate, just another vote of approval. Just a great looking, running era for the little German Speedsters! Just my 2 cents. Thanks, Buzzone
