anyone ever heard of Mode, Inc.?
Took a ride recently in a 993 in Atlanta area with a 3.8L engine built by Mode. Inc. in Scottsdale AZ. 655 FWHP and a spirited ride albeit with a lot of wheel hopping in first and second gear.
I did a search in this division for Mode, Inc. and returned 0 hits. Hoping someone can enlighten me. The guy seems to be very pleased with his high-dollar engine.

Owned by Bob Holcomb. He's got to great reputation for building high power 993 turbo engines. Here's a picture posted by Evan (AMGETR) showing an engine built by FVD and breathed on by Bob.
Thanks Khalid,
I felt sure Mode should have been well known to someone, or this guy wouldn't have dropped 50K on an engine. Too bad he didn't follow through with some suspension mods to get the power to the ground a little better. Or maybe he did the mods, but not the right ones. BTW, I was impressed with the workmanship. Does he do anything with 996 engines?

Bob Holcomb is well known for building high HP aircooled cars. However unlike Protomotive, he does not tuned Motronic but Motec or other EMS. As result, most of Mode's cars are not emision compliance. Dropping $50K on a 993TT 3.8L is common. Ask how I know

Vincent,
How do the old conversions such as you have/had compare to the Evolution et.al. add-ons for the 996 cars? Was this guy making 650+ HP on a chassis dyno, or do you think it was at the crank? Did you have the wheel hopping issues with the 993?
Have noted from other threads that you are a dental student. Where are you in school and when do you graduate? Specializing?

That's 650hp at the crank. Comparatively speaking the power curve of a 3.8L Twin plug is wider thus acceleration is more brutal. Heat soaked is a common issue with these car above 650hp. The head also tend to lift beyond this pointl.
Wheel hoping are common on AWD cars.
PS I 've been in practice for over 6yrs.

Saw some post in reading myriad threads iin the last month and it mentioned something about you being in school or some such. Sorry for the mistake.
I graduated in 1967 and am still practicing with one brief retirement interlude of 13 years.
I hope to do something after the first of the year and would love to pick the brains of a fellow practitioner. Maybe a PM some time down the line
Thanks

Are you thinking of picking up a 993TT? Please let me know if I can help. What part of Atlanta are you located? Do you track at Road Atlanta?

Vincent,
I am interested in the amenities of the later model 996 models. Plus, gets me a newer platform. Have ridden in a local GT2, and it was a great ride, but I think a GT2 is a little too strong for the budget right now. I am out of many years of retirement and into a scratch solo practice of just over two years age. Looking to develop the cosmetics side, which I love, but that comes after one has first built a good patient base. Visit me sometme at www.AtlantaLaserDentistry.com I'm so new to this forum that I don't even know if links are active from within the posted text; I think so. This link certainly doesn't work within the "post quick reply" assembly station.
My tracking experience is extremely limited, and very dated. Back almost 25 years ago when I was building my own engines and doing a lot of drag racing, I got tired of that and thought I would give road racing a try. I ordered a Swift DB4 through some dealer in Ft. Lauderdale and decided I would assemble it myself to save a little money and gain some understanding. It was drop-shipped to my home shop in a large wooden crate, with absolutely no instructions, and it was a struggle to get it together, but a great learning experience. Also built my first "cammer", that being a 2L English Ford.
Got the whole thing set up nicely, corner weights, caster, camber, toe, bump steer, etc.with some help from locals, and went to Road Atlanta for a regional race. Put it backwards in to the tire wall at the Nissan bridge and destroyed both rear corners. This was in the during the first lap of the first qualifying session. Bought all the parts, re-assembled it and sold it. Yes, Vincent, I have tracked at Road Atlanta, but in a most unusual way.
I live in Duluth GA just off I 85 N and my practice is 3 miles away in Lawrenceville. I am about 25 min. and 25 mi. from Road Atlanta and their Sunoco 260 which is 98 octane R+M/2.
I would love some PM advice as to how to mod out a 996 to make it "haul the mail" while at the same time retaining some reliability. "Haul the mail" is a relative term for all of us, and my 25-year-old standard is 0 to about 200 in less than 8 seconds. Not estremely fast for that era, but nonethtless, my standard. Don't get me wrong; I am not looking for anything near those numbers in a reliable street vehicle, but just interjecting the facts to say that it takes a lot to "blow my skirt up," I have had several very fast street rods through the years, but all have had unreliability problems. Could that have anything to do with the fact that the one common denominator was that I was the author/constructor of them all. LOL
Where are you practicing?
Best regards,
Al
