993 A/C Control unit $1200!!!

Hi,

So my mechanic tells me my A/C problem is due to a faulty A/C Control unit(dash controls and box behind dash). New part cost's $1200, looking for a used one since this is a rare issue. Does anyone have a spare or can lead me to a source,

John

Sunset Porsche always has a pretty low, if not the best, price on parts. I would maybe jump over to Rennlist.com and search for more info on this issue.

I have a friend who has one Perfect condition. He was asking $575 for it a few weeks ago. But didn't really have it "for sale" anywhere, if you know what I mean. I'll give him a call and check it out for you if you are interested. Save $625, and have one that is like brand new. i think those just plug right in to your dash too... very easy fix. I could probably get him to ship for free and guarantee it ('cause he knows 100% for sure it works). ;o)

Let me know if you can even find one brand new right now.....

I've been trying to track one down as a warranty deal, and cannot locate any new units in the US as of last week. They've supposedly been backordered for at least 14-16 weeks now. This could be heresay, but it had something to do with the warehouse burning in Germany where these units were housed in, so they had to manufacture and tool new batches.

Anyhow, the lead time as well as the story sound crazy to me, too, but after checking with Sunset, dealerships, indys, SSF, and Worldpac in the past, let me know if anyone does have a lead on a new one.

There are 2 different control units. One for a '95, and one for '96 '97 & '98 (or something really close to that). Have you unplugged yours yet? There's a sticker on the little blower motor, what's the number on it?
Below is a photo of it, so you can see how it is plugged in. Pull that sucker out, and take a peek. ;o)

I will check... I think he may be selling it pretty soon. He said he has someone interested in it for the same reason as you.
I'm in SoCal.
