'95 993 Carrera 4 Cabrio
Hello all,
I was offered a 1995 Carrera 4 Cabrio with 41k miles for my 73 Cherokee 140 airplane. It's a silver with a hideous GREEN interior/top. How much are these 993 Cabrios going for? Are there any specific problems with the 993s? What important service records should I request? KBB quoted me $20k, NADA however quoted me $30k retail. The airplane is valued at somewhere between $30-35K. Any help would be welcomed.

It really depends on condition and service history. If it is mint with all records, maybe low $30s. If it is rough, has had paint work, has been hit or has no service records probably mid 20s. The green interior may knock more off of the value. Ask for ALL service records. Look for regular oil changes, and major service at 30k miles. At 40k miles it probably doesn't need a new clutch but if it has had one it's a bonus as it costs $3500-4000 at a shop. Do not buy (or trade an airplane for) a Porsche without getting a PPI by an experienced Porsche technician.
You either love or hate the color combo. That can make it worth more or less. But a really sorted well cared for 993 is worth in the 25-35 range no problem. Since you are in CA they go for more up there, so maybe add 10-15%.
Do a little search on the 993, it's a very solid car, but it eats rear tires, & the valves wear a little fast, causing a top end rebuild. This can happen any time, from 20kmi, to 250,000mi. Seams to be dependent on how the car was driven, & if it has it yearly oil changes. The CCU (climate control) can go out, but can be rebuilt. Oh, the stock shocks suck, & wear out fast. That's about it.

if you can sell the airplane yourself and get 30k, i would do that. the 993 is worth 25k at best. i just sold my 1995, 993 cab for 28k and so im very aware of the market. if you find the interior hideous so will everyone else and the value will be reflected in that.
