Over-boost??

Hi guys,

Last week I went to IA and had my stage 4 kit installed. I also had wastgates and boost hoses installed. Steven personally tuned and tested my car, and the boost was set to 1.2 bar. The temperature then was around 60* F. On my way home, I fully tested out the car, and it was unbelievable!!

Fast forward to today...temperature was 24* F this morning. I was driving the car on the interstate, doing some runs in 4th and 5th. As the revs climbed, the boost went to a consistent 1.3. After seeing 1.3, I would let off, and then for a minute or so the car would only boost to .6. After this minute, everything was fine and the car would boost to 1.3 again. Then the same thing would happen again. The car is running great except fot this issue...no dash lights or anything like that. If I keep the boost under 1.3 bar there was nothing wrong and the car ran fine.

I have heard about the TB shutdown if boost gets too high, but I thought it wasn't until 1.4 bars.

Has anyone experienced this before, and if so, can you give me some suggestions on what to do?

Thanks!!

24* F it very very low..

Thus, I suggest you to mark the 2 nuts of the WG on both sides and return then (opposite clock wise) 1 full turn....then start and test again...until you will set your WG for your local Temperate variations.

Also the OEM Boost gauge it has some delay and you may see 1.3 bar and before it will show you 1.4 already the TB has shutdown.

It take some time to tune the WG but is worth!

...give a call to Stephen, he will help you for sure!

Would an external electronic boost controller like a Greddy unit solve this problem?

Yes the greddy should fix it but you will need complete new programming for it..Just turn the screw on the wastegate 1 turn to the left and your problem should be solved, very easy and it takes about 5 minutes to do it..

I experimented for many weeks on upgraded WGs and unfortunatley when the temps drop that low you will boost higher. this casues the ecu to freak out... go into limp mode. We have greddys for that but thats a different ecu. I also tried a manual boost controller so I would not have to go under the car evrtime the temps changed so drastically.... It seemed to work- ans that was on a GIAC ecu.

You need new programming to use the Greddy boost controller? I was planning on going to with a ZC k16/k24 turbo set and will be getting FVD Stage 4 programming so should I have FVD include programming for the boost controller?

I'm not sure but I think Todd from Protomotive is the only one who has this program and it's for the K24/18G set up..
