RCNJ, good luck with the new engine build. It will be more expensive, take longer and be more frustrating that you plan. Do it once and do it right. The labor to go in is ridiculous so you are almost obligated to replace or upgrade anything marginal while you are in there. Check your intermediate shaft and bearings while in the motor. Replace the liner O rings as well. Check for updated seals and sealants. Spring will be here before you know it, Dont be afraid of TopGun, he drives like a Granny

YEs but bad gas and or running to much boost can cause a kaboom as well- even with internal Wgs and stock controller. I recall I used to have 3 sets or wgs... actually from a very respected( by me) tuner and boost still went up to 1.5 or 1.6 bars even though I had a Giac ECU. This happens when the Temps drop a lot and the boost natually climbs.... You almost would have to manually turn down the springs... somehting I did for over 6 months.
The ecu, as far as I know will not limit your boost via stock Wgs... its where ur Wgs are set is where the boost will peak... an if u had them set in the summer for 1.2 bars... well guess what... at 40 degrees or lower you will be doing 1.4 bars... thats why a lot of guys with upgraded springs go into limp mode when temps drop.

KPG, thanks for the tip. I'll make sure to run that by my builder. Hopefully come spring I'll be ready to drive Ms. Daisy .

Sure it will. That is how it works. The ECU sends a signal to the N75 valve to open the wg's and bleed off boost to prevent overboosting and overspinning of the turbos due to temp changes, boost hose failing etc.

Raudel, I made it a point to learn about my motor and find out what makes it tick inside. It is a whole lot easier to understand when you can touch the parts you are talking about. It would not hurt to take a good look at the lifters as well, my intake lifters were scored pretty good after only 18,000 miles, but hell, for all I know it was a lease return from Dmaffo Porsche is damn proud of their rebuild gaskets and orings as well.

That is a good example! lets say your boost controller goes bad & spikes to 2 bar on pump gas then what? Sometimes its just not the gas...I prefer all the saftey measures I can get..IMHO
