Exhaust Gaskets

I'm going to fit my Europipe tomorrow. Unfortunately, I didn't order a new pair of the sealing O-rings that go between the car flange and the turbine flange. I hate exhuast leaks with a passion, but it is okay to reuse them? Should I put a smear of silicon seleant on them?

There has been some discussion on this topic...some (including Porsche certified mechanics) will say it is OK to re-use them. I guess a little depends on the shape they are in. I would use new ones, but I don't think it is a must.

Exhaust Gaskets

I just installed a TechArt exhaust I got from another board member and was told by the dealer and a shop I checked with to use new exhaust gaskets which I did. Not cheap .... these tin rings and new exhaust nuts cost me $120. Felt I would sleep better and who wants to take this back apart if there is a leak.

Where did you buy them? I put in a Europipe system...the metal O crush rings were $17 each, and the special friction nuts were $1.40 each....used 6 of them. That doesn't come to anywhere near $120....Call Jeff Clark at Sunset Porsche in Oregon....

Depending upon how old the nuts are, some guys will just reuse them...but recommend replacing the crush ring.

Looking at my invoice from the dealer, Carlsen Porsche .... let's see $35.43 for each exhaust ring and 4.42 per exhaust nut .... for a grand total of $124.55 with tax. I bought 2 extra nuts .... that's obviously what clearly threw this over the top.

Holy Diamonds Batman.....that's quite a difference....might be worth looking around a bit. You gotta' watch your nuts...they're very valuable.

I have purchased from Sunset in Oregon and their prices are great ..... but I wanted to install the exhaust as soon as it arrived and could not wait ..... over 100% markup on ordinary service parts is unbelievable.
