Hey Markski, How much do I stand to gain with my setup by installing one or do I HAVE to have the diode mod?

I messed around with EBC when I had GIAC and FVD...
If u still have the 1.3 bar shut down then ur limited to that... u might as well set up ur WGs to and be done.... no need for a EBC. The only thing that it would do it control the boost from the cockpit... so u would not have to go under the car to adjust the WGs... it is a cool feature but in order to do it u should have a program thats at least a stage 4 and I recommend running 100 octane at 1.3 bars ... anything over that will start leaning ur car... also, if u do this and have k24s or k16/24s u need a 5 bar FPR.
the difference between 1.1 bars and 1.3 bars is considerable...

I've been quoted an install time of 3-4 hours by serveral shops. At 100 per hour that's 300 to 400. 1200 seems way over the top.

I trusted my mechanic to charge me a fair price, he asked to supply the controller as well, then charged me $435, $22 shipping, $26 fuse holder, plus had my ruf exhaust tips cut off sent out by him to chrome, $85 each tip, $250 reinstall exhaust and $1250 to install the B.Controller. He did most all my work for me such as roll bar, susp, shifter, seats. I usually never asked for estimates and just assumed I had to over pay for everything because it was a porsche and he was of one a few that is "clean" with his work. I think its tough living in the north east with a limited selection of mechanics in the area, esp someone who knows turbos. Most all the places focus on the older classic models and cup cars.

So did you pay $1200 with the EBC and the exhaust tips... if so that makes sense.
The ebc is $440 plus shipping.... so he didnt rape you there.

Well I used to have the stage 3 (540hp) FVD but I upgraded to the stage 4 (570HP) ECU.....as I recall I used to get .9 - 1.0 with the stage 3 and had wastegates installed when I had stage 3....now I get 1.1 but have never had the wastegates adjusted again....so are you telling me that with an adjustment I should be able to get 1.3? If so that's cool and I will get on it...and are you saying that even without the EBC I should get the 5 bar? Yes I have K24's, but I do not have good access to 100 octane so I think limiting myself to 1.3 is fine.....I'd like to see what the difference is..

Thanks

Chris

Chris,
Yes install a 5 bar... I actually know that FVDs stage 3 and 4 requires it...
If u cant run on 100 octane then turn it to 1.2 bars MAX.... dont do 1.3 on pump. the car will just pull timing.
U can hook up a EBC and actually control the boost form the cockpit and run anywhere in between where ur springs are set to ur 1.3 cut off... so on a given day u wnat to run 1.29 or so u turn it till u get it it and then where u run out of 100 octane u turn it down...
But I warn you that the EBC has to be installed correctly...

Porschenaround,
Your original post made it sound like you paid 1200 just for the EBC install. But it appears that was the total cost of everything you had done. Is that correct?

taizen is infamous around these parts
I did it myself and it took 4-6 hours depending on how elaborate you may want to route the lines into the cabin and where u end up placing the controller.
