Sequential Gear Shifter System
Sequential Gear Shifter System
Has anyone seen the sequential gear shift system from OakleyDesign. According to OakleyDesign this system was designed/developed by Porsche for the 997 GT2/3 but was to expensive when hitting the option list. You can use the orgininal shifter or the higher aluminum OakleyDesign shifter. Dash mounted LED displays the current gear selected. The unit is assembled directly onto your Porsche gearbox. You still has to use the clutch but the shifting is done at the same speed every time. You push or pull the shifter depending on gear. There will also be a carbon shifter in the future. I have ordered this for my car so in a couple of months I will give you my opinion. http://www.oakleydesign.eu/sequential-gear-shift

Yeah, we discussed this in a thread not too long ago here: https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...d.php?t=111276. There was also some owner feedback on PistonHeads around Christmas if you look in the Porsche forum. Although you still have to clutch, the system itself seems pretty slick and is extremely well made. The consensus is that the benefits are rather minimal, although this certainly ensures that you never pull a 5-2 shifting blunder. I've been contemplating this myself, but IMO I have better uses for the money right now (<$10k).

Thanks for the enquiry, and the comment about our web site, it is being re
visited prior to Autosport, we have a large stand, complete with the Ascari
car from top gear (Uses our Sequential)Additionally we have just completed
wind tunnel testing at MIRA for our carbon parts, so we shall have a full
video of this.
As for the sequential, yes it fits; it bolts to the side of the existing
gearbox intercepting the two rod linkages, and then moves the cogs by
electro magnets.
You do have to use the clutch as normal, however the gear lever is straight
up / down as a fully sequential unit, the shifts are really fast, and it
does mean that it is impossible to miss a gear.
Its actually my favorite part as the feel good factor alone is worth it, and
I drove some 1200 miles with it and found it a dream. The cost is £3,950 +
vat, excluding fitting this takes about 8 Hrs including electrics.
If you have any further enquires about this or any other products please do
not hesitate to contact me.

Exactly. You could put a 1' extension on the stock shifter and accomplish 75% of the same thing.

Mine is built like a 24 H race car tranny. And I can say 10 K is not enough more like
40 K.
Rebulding a 996 Turbo gearbox with oilcooling like cup cars or the GT2/2 + the rest is major work.
Gearbox: Oilcooling like the GT2/3, steel syncros on all gears, Paul Guard Limited Slip, EVO 300M axel kit, shifter mecanism/cables from cup car, aluminum flywheel, the rest of the internal stuff is also from the cup cars, motorsport gears with the following speed at 7400 rpm. 1/90 km/h, 2/130 km/h, 3/170 km/h, 4/210 km/h, 5/265 km/h, 6/315 km/h.

that's what she said.
srsly tho, there was another sequential shift level system for sale for around 4 grand by a company.
a search either here or on rennlist should yeild a result
I realise this thread was some time ago; however I found it while playing with the search tool in google!
To this point I should mention the system retalis at £3995.00 (so about $8k dollars) not 10k as mentioned above.
Also there should soon be announcements concerning a US demonstrator car where those that remain on the cautious side can try for themselves - be warned however; all those that have showed interest in the system that have then tried it have loved it that much that they bought it (therefore if you want to protect your wallet; don't get in the car!).
Thanks Mike.

Not to sound like a skeptic but after paying 10K for 2 clutches that were supposed to work I have reservations about many products....
And if it holds up no one will question it. That I know.

Instead of putting it in a "all show no go" P car.... give me a set and I will tell you if it works on a 950 rwhp P car running 9s trapping 150+ mph.

And remember, its "just" a shifting mecanism, the load will still be on your gearbox/clutch...
