New Member Introduction

I got introduced to this site by Alex a fellow McLaren F-1 team nut when I mentioned to him that I finally convinced my wife that a “real Porsche” is in deed practical. I say “real” because I have a Cayenne S and I don’t consider it the real experience. I am in the market for a 996 TT (2001-2002) and I am looking for some advice on what to look out for. I found the car below. I am not sure about the color combo but I have not seen it in person. Does anyone know anything about it? Thanks and I look forward to fun times in a “real Porsche.”

Welcome Stefan,
Hope you find the car you want. All that matters is that you like the color because it's your money. Have it inpected at a reputable place and enjoy the ride. BTW, some Porsches are SUVs, some are faster, some are more expensive, but they are all "real Porsches."

Took you long enough but you're at the right place. Good luck holding on to your $. Welcome to the 6 bredrin! To the members, is this a good buy? Are there any comparable vehicles in the price range that you could point Stef to? All help would be appreciated.

Welcome to the 6! That looks like a decent buy. You have to decide what is important to you. I would say you should be able to get one with less miles for around that same price. I would also say if you are looking to mod, buying one with some light mods will save you a lot in the end as long as it is well documented and maintained, these things are expensive to mod. Stay tuned on the 6 and you should find a great one!

Also, there are bunch of us in md/va/dc area where are you located???

Welcome and good luck on your seach. I learned alot on this forum before (and after) I purchased also.
Must admit though that as a balanced well handling car that Cayman is a real Porsche.
When they make a Clubsport version I will buy one!!

Happy hunting. Even though I have two 996 tt's I still love to act like I'm in the hunt by checking what is avail out there. The one thing I have found out is that if I had been a bit more patient I may have found one with some extras such as techart front, gt2 deck lid and power mods for a bit more miles but the same as what I paid for my bone stock 03 996tt with 1300 miles. No regrets b/c I love my cars but if I could do it again I would have done more homework slowly. That said you have a good selection out there so find the one which makes the most all around sense to you. GL.

Thanks for the responses. I am also considering a E60 M5 because I have 2 little ones in booster seats and this will be my main car (for now). Does anyone else have kids they put in the back regularly and is it a real pain or worth it? Thanks.

I traded my E60 M5 in on the turbo. The M5 was a great car and, considering it was a 4-door, it was quite fun to drive. Overall though, the turbo is much more enjoyable to drive. It does ride rougher and it isn't as practical, but for me it is perfect.

It all comes down to what you need to do with the car. If you have kids and this will be your only car, I would probably go with the M5, but if you have another car then I would definitely go with the turbo. Just my $.02
