Which exhaust has the least drone for a Tip 996tt?

I would like to get an aftermarket exhaust to increase performance, but I've heard that the Tip is very sensitive to drone. In regular driving in automatic mode, I'm usually between 2-3k RPMS just cruising around, and that's the rpm range that it seems most people say they get the most drone/resonance.

Can I hear from 996tt Tip owners who have experience with the different available aftermaket exhausts?

I have the Europipe2 quiet and am very happy with it. It is louder than stock but does not "drone" in my opinion. I have heard that the awe system, or the ruf modified exhaust or even the stock exhaust with the hole drill modification could work. I would stay with Europipe or AWE. I have not heard the miltekexhaust but others have said good things about it. Good luck. In my opinion be careful with the others for a tip if you want no drone. Many others sound great but may not be a quiet as these I mentioned.

Stephen,
Glad to hear about the Gen 3 fabspeed. I was not aware of this one. I know if you have tested it then you can believe the no drone comment. Good to see you posting again. Have not seen as much from you but I always valued your comments. You are one of the many tuners on here whos opinion is very trustworthy. Take care.

The Europipe Stage 1 Quiet would be my reccommend
(I do not have knowledge of the new fabspeed, that could be good as well).

I have tried many!

Also, I have a 9FF that has ZERO drone on the quiet setting for sale in the classifieds.

OCTurbo is infamous around these parts
From the exhausts i've personally heard and read about, awe would be one of your best choices if you don't want any drone.

I have an AWE but I must admit, I can't say that I enjoy it when I am just driving around - personally I think it does drone...for me it is a bit too loud for regular street driving but I think it sounds great when I am on it and jamming around the track or backroads. I don't typically use it just to drive around so it is fine for me. If I used it more as a DD, I wouldn't like it.

I think you really have to ride in one before you buy any of them...exhaust tone and drone is very specific to individual tastes/tolerances.

Thanks for all the input. I guess "drone" is a very subjective thing. In searching old threads (not specific to the Tiptronic, just exhausts in general), the same exhaust is described by different people as "no drone" and "too much drone". I guess I'll have to experience some of the different types for myself (on the Tip tranny) to see what my subjective feeling is about the potential drone.

sandvik996tt,

This goes to show that everyone is different because I had a RUF and sent it back due to too much drone. After one week, I wanted it of the car. Alois offered to replace it with a "special" single outlet version to eliminate the drone. He had done this once before for someone else, so I tried it and sure enough it worked.

I'm very happy with my Milltek - regularly do long motorway trips and there's very little drone
