996 Turbo / GT2 Turbo discussion on previous model 2000-2005 Porsche 911 Twin Turbo and 911 GT2.

Any internal differences between 996TT and 997TT engines?

I entered the Porsche market from an Evo VIII march of last year. And my expierence from Tym so far has been nothing but honest and amazing.... His work is pristine.... I will goto Tym with any future projects for as long as I live...

the internals are somewhat different between the 997tt and 996tt. Seen it with my own eyes and EVO have also. The pistons are quite different and share some tech from the 997 GT3 pistons. The oil pump is the same GT3R one as found in the later 05 spanish case cars. The case is obviously the newer style one with the added sleeving. James said there were some others differences as did Todd@EVO.

Thanks Alex! Do these differences contribute to an ability to run 100hp more on a stock block? Does the new piston design lower compression that much?

Also, I didn't know there were '05 996TTs running around with the GT3RS oil pump stock?! That's crazy, you've actually seen this? That's a big change to make at the end of a run - what was the reason for this?

Maybe the latest 05 cars came with a 997TT block?

one of the major diff is the 996tt doesn't have the leaky engine cases. rms

hey jimmer23, it's a more durable design... and overall there's less pressure/stress and cooler temps we think. As to how much can be run on a stock block it would depend on the usage/scenario and hardware used. Sure the stock block is strong and theoretically stronger than the 996tt case but it's still early days. You're right the 05TT's (with the spanish case) all have the GT3R oil pump in there just like the GT2/Turbo S'. I think it was a neat idea to make a relatively new production run with the S and start including some updates. It's a bit like a driver update from Nvidia I guess

Beware of modded 997TT's...

This 997 TT platform (with stock internals) is going to outperform
the 996TT. I am aware of some very IMPRESSIVE numbers already.

Trust me if I could fork enough money over to get a 997TT I'd be switching right now

There is a beautiful one for sale on F110's already.
