Modded Z06 VS Modded 996TT
I'm confused... You said your car trapped close to your proto 800 GT2 correct? With what mods? I did run toe to toe with a 700, I had a passenger as well, until upper 100's where the larger turbo's took over ..
I have ran Z06's before and a Ford GT same day (which many of the Fchat people witnessed) with me pulling away from them very fast...
Don't know what to tell you, not every car/setup/driver/day are created equal, and I would be very interested in a run between our 2 car's that's for damn sure!
All the guy asked was how a 700 kit turbo would stack up against a Z06, with what ive seen from runs over the summer the 700 is very very fast at highway speeds, and again where the Z06 lacked (and I experienced one first hand) but not modded to the extent of yours.

I'm saying my N/A Z will run within a car length or so to a 996 700. With a 50 shot, it'll walk most 700's, since it ran even with my GT2 at the track...same driver, same track, nearly same conditions. Like 996 owners, there are lots of Z owners of varying driving skills, so I can't comment on who's driving the Z you were racing. Remove the driver variable and a small shot Z would be tough for most 996/GT2's to take out....
Was excellent you were able to do similar times at the strip, but you know damn well the GT2 shines on the highway, not the dragstrip, so let me ask you a question... Wouldn't it have pulled damn hard on the highway? The Z06 has always been a good car to get down the strip! Now I know the logistics of trap speed and so on, but it's not ALWAYS accurate, at least from the car's and people I have ran who tell me what they have done at the strip, yet on the highway they fall short by a lot!
Couldn't agree more and why I emphasize the driver's/car and setups...

A big +1 on this one. Using trap speeds to guage Porsches is NOT a good idea if you're racing on the highway. Same with BMW's.
But I say a H/C Z06 is a tad slower than a 700. At least the one I've driven
. The Torque is the difference. NA motors cant make as much Torque when you add mods.
DJ's Z: my last dyno is below. The Z06 you show has a solid 40-50 HP on me and unfortunately I don't have a torque graph (ironically, the corvette specialist that dynoed it didn't know how to hook up an ignition pickup).
Regarding launching and shifting the TT. Like many people here I think I have some decent skills at launching and (power) shifting cars, especially turbos as I have owned many different brands and models. Launching the TT is not that difficult, but these cars do not do well power shifting IMO. Especially not in the 1-2 shift. I read once that this is due to the unusually short gearing (large gears) in 1st and 2nd making the job of the syncros THAT much more difficult. Do you guys SLAM the gears? I'm not comfortable doing that in the TT, it just seems SO forced.
Regardless, I still think launching a NA V8 with predictable torque curve is more repeatable than modulating the clutch / turbo boost on a TT.
One more point. The Z06 goes 62 mph in 1st gear. We have to work that much harder with a perfect launch/boost modulation AND a 1-2 shift.
Honestly, I am getting very excited about owning a modded Z06. I mean Cmon! 600 WHP in a 3150 lb car? That is NICE! The TT isn't going anywhere though

OhioGT2 first tell me what side of the discussion are you on? By your username I am not clear!!
The videos prove nothing? So the Z06 was even with me until he shifted to 5th so "f'en" what!! I pulled on him above 150 mph. That is what matters. Yea he hung with me up to 140, but I kicked butt beyond. Almost doesn't count and above all he ****in weighed less than 800 lbs less than me!!! You may not think that matters (0.1 sec per 100 lbs) well when a 4200 lbs sled beats a Z06 Vette it means something.
Cheers,

The same could be said about some of the Porsche's as well...
Next time I get a chance to run a modded TT996 or GT2 on the top end (180+) I'll chime back in and let everyone know how poorly the Z pulled in 5th gear...
Do you know of a strong Z06 forum? Preferably one with modaholics?

BINGO...a 'good' driver is the number one mod needed to take full advantage of each cars abilities. I can guarantee most of the Z06's that some of you guys are racing are not driven to their fullest potential.

No that was John...my car is N/A. I don't know of any car around here that can run with Peters Supra at full power. That car is INSANE...!! Low 4's 60-130...!!
I've had pretty good luck here...

yes but never ran the car with the new rubber...not expecting a great number but should see some high 7.5's with some good weather and no head wind...
Hi guys, I am running a stock 08 z06 this week in my 996 I will post up some good videos, I really find it hard to believe its going to beat my car but after reading some of this thread you guys got me scared. I am a k16 car with only Software/BC/Racegas program/DV'S/RWD. I am new to the 996 scene but been in the drag racing scene for years as you can see from my sig. The zo6 guy is also a very good driver to it will be fair game.

You are right, but in my ex turbo I also pulled stock Z06's, I wouldn't say kill because it wasn't by any means, but walked is more like it!
GT2 is much faster then a 996TT is right, at least in stock configuration, 30 seconds faster then a 996tt to 186mph and back to 0 before a 996tt gets to 186mph. In the GT2 buyers guide of Porsche excellence that came out over the summer.

My TT S stays with a 2008 Lambo LP640 to 125MPH. He may have 1 car length some of the time. The only car to date that has done that to me. An LP640 has 0-62 time of 3.5 seconds and 205MPH top speed.
