Bosch 044 Pumps

Does anyone know if they can be used as an intank pump and inline pump? I want to make sure people are using them as a intank pump and another one for an inline pump. I just want to make sure I order the right pumps!!!

Hey Chris,

I use the 996 pumps intank on the 00-02 audi s4s and in the 93-95 audi s4/s6. They weren't designed to be submerged but can be with out an issue.

What would you recommend for a pump to be submerged, because I have a normal 996TT which supposably has a different pump than the 996 GT2. I am use to the old F-body/Mustang world where you just order a BBK Intank 255lph pump LOL!

I believe that that is how Protomotive uses them.

Why would you recomend a non- submersible pump to be used in a submersible application? Arent there other pumps available that are better suited for submersion in an explosive liquid? Do you have any data from the manufacturer that allows it to be used as an intank pump. I may be wrong, but the 044 GT2 pump from Bosch was originally used in an OEM apllication as an in-line pump on a 993GT2...not a 996GT2...

Gas isnt explosive, gas vapor is explosive.

There are dozens of other tuners that submerge this pump, protomotive included in this list.

Hey Chris, I'm 99% sure the 044 is the same Bosch pump we used to use in-tank on the DSMs.

EDIT: Correction, I'm 100% sure now. http://www.dsmtalk.com/forums/archiv.../t-167359.html

You're totally fine. Good luck!

The 044 is used but it is not plug-n-play. I do not recall specifically from the conversation what is done exactly, but the baffle and pump mount must be modified. Todd K. described the process and it requires some fabrication, at least the way he does it.

I will say that Todd K's solution works perfectly. I never ever have any probs w/ my GT2 that he installed dual 044's on (one in the tank) and then hand tuned. After 6 months the car is absolutely flawless, not one solitary issue, ever. And the set up is whisper quite.

Now my M3, on the other hand, the Aeromotive pump sounds like a freight train and if I get below half a tank of gas it throws the service engine light which Joel (the guy who charged a fortune to build the car) charges $85 to clear.
