Thinking about LSD

I'm thinking about getting a Guard LSD http://www.guardtransmission.com/velocity.htm

Sounds like there are a lot of benefits provided buy a LSD. Better acceleration out of corners, ability to break later going into corners, better straight line acceleration for bigger HP cars. On the downside, an LSD can induce under steer. There are various 'ratios' available for lockup during acceleration and deceleration. I'm very confused as to what is the best set up for me. I will be tracking the car very infrequently as the closest track requires a weekend trip. I have a young family have put most of this on the back burner for a few years. I plan on getting out to the local drag strip a few times this summer, but don't want a car that will plow through the corners. My car is a summer daily driver. I will most likely be upgrading power a bit beyond the basic GT700 kit in the near future. Also considering stretching out the lower gears. What happens with LSD / PSM combo?

All input would be much appreciated.

Mike

honestly, i would just go gears. The LSD just seems like it doesnt fit the way it should (dynamically)...I guess thats what the GT2 is for...haha...some may say otherwise, but just my .02

Thumbs up Lsd

One of the best mechanical mods I have done.
Rarely does the PSM engage now. (if tires are at temp)
With the Guards LSD you are no longer so dependent on anti-lock
brakes w/PSM for your traction control.
I was advised not to use the tightest lock up unless using slicks.
With the LSD you have the best of both worlds...
GT2 w/PSM & AWD...
I love mine and would recommend to all > 600HP or frequent tracking.
There are those who want to comment...poo-poo the need,
but unless you have it, or driven one to compare... you don't know.
Good luck on your decision, let us know if you make the plunge.
PM me if you would like to discuss further.

Thanks for the responses guys. What is the correct ratio? I was thinking 40% (Braking) % 60% (acceleration). Silvershark, what exactly are you using?

The title of this thread implied it had nothing to do with Porsches...
But as far as LSD for cars, it is a must-have..

40/60 is what was recommended to me. That is what I went with.

Just got a 40/65 LSD installed to a 4wd Turbo. Manthey-Racing themselves suggested it as a worthwhile upgrade.
The track season starts in a month so I will let you know...should be really great acceleration from the corners and also lower stress on the Visco-clutch for the front wheel drive!

(But without active track driving not sure would I opt for it...)

Looking forward to hearing your comments. It's supposed to make a significant difference to the character of the car (which is kinda scary). Are they using a Guard? Perhaps something different in Europe. Did they give you some options for ratios? Any comments on why 40/65 was chosen/recommended?

Thanks!

there are 2 diffs on this car, right? (b/c of awd) If so, do you only get an lsd for the rear? How does this affect the AWD system?
