Do you think an insurance card with my mane and Vin# on it would be suitable proof of ownership?

....I'm tired of the car just sitting in my garage............

Unless they know you well they will require proof of ownership. 10 minutes with Word and I can print out a realistic looking insurance card with anybody's info on it and I'm no artist. Maybe if they run the VIN through their system your name will show up. You will get better results in person than if you call on the phone for sure...imagine being the guy fielding that call. Don't get too irritated with whatever they require...can you imagine the liability on them if they gave keys to a non-owner?

wait how do you lose both set of keys? if you know your dealer then they will probably make you another set. you might need all of your personal info like your title and any proof of ownership if they ask.

I think the car has to be there to program the key to the car.
That is what I had to do ($275! arghh)

Car has to be in the dealership, and i'd saw the technician that the process would take about 30-45mins to get done...

I recently got one key made. As far as I know, they can cut you a key that will start the car with just the VIN number. However, to program the remote so that the lock/unlock buttons etc. work, you will need to take the car in and pay for the programming labor (my dealer charged 30 minutes labor). Overall, an expensive process ($400 for one key + labor) and they absolutely require proof of ownership. I had to take in both registration and insurance card.

There is an immobiliser chip in the key that requires programming (different from the remote programming). Even if they can do it without thr car present that does not mean they will.

Not to be a party pooper...but why not just call and ask what you need to do? If you own the car, then you have whatever you nee for them to make new keys...and yes, it will be quite expensive...

I just had a key made.

$300.00 and the car had to be there. $190 for the key and labour to program.

They didn't ask about ownership, but I drove it in with a key.
