How Hard is it to return to AWD from RWD
Yeah, I said it.
I want to try it because I'm still frustrated with power understeer, I beleive that is keeping me from the "next" level of speed. My cornering speeds in low speed corners is suffering because I cant use the throttle like I want to. And the engineering it will take to eliminate it completely while still AWD is beyond what I'm willing to go.
Who's done the whole conversion and then put it back? What parts do you have to buy? I know you have to break something to get it off.

I see, good luck finding your next level.
You just need to complete the RWD conversion properly with ALL of the correct GT2 (or Cup) suspension parts and the Porsche Motorsports diff. These changes will make a huge difference on the track and take you to whatever level you are trying to acheive. Going back to AWD will not.
I've been avoiding all of that stuff because I've always wanted to keep the car close to factory with basic upgrades. Which it is now. I've tried to avoid the heavily modded description. There are far too many guys in Porsches with far more car than driver and I'm trying to avoid that by being slow with the developement of the car. I'm still leary about this one, but the weight loss and turning potential is too tempting to pass up, I'd have to cut metal and spend a ton on ceramics and ultra light wheels just to get that 71 lbs, and I still would be able to turn like I can in RWD.
Before I get too much, I'd rather just buy a GT2 or get a race car, I'm keeping it simple so I can be proud of my driving abilites and not my purchasing power.

This made a HUGE difference for me at my last track day. The last time I was out at an autocross, I was pushing the front all over the place (just removed the axles and driveshaft, no corner balance, left driveshaft just to try it out)...
Granted, you can go further as Luis suggested above but do yourself a favor and try this out first before heavily modifying and investing a ton more money. I bought no additional parts, just labor that is 100% reversible. I think that you might be very happy with the feel of the car. The front no longer plowed and I was finally really able to get the car to rotate correctly with throttle...
I was running -1.3 and -1.8 degrees of camber front and rear respectively. This is a weekend toy for me as well so I didn't go further than that but you obviously could dial in more - camber and make other tweaks to help you get around the track faster!

Otherwise I would just as soon drive the AWD 996TT with some good suspension and have fun on the track.
If you want to be competitive a GT3, GT2, 911 Cup or other 911 race car is the way to go.

Louis- I understand your case completely as that was my arguement in the RWD vs AWD debate. I know it's extensive and my worry is keeping it streetable. But I'm still taking it slowly in case at the spur of the moment I decide to go racing and turn the TT back to DD. It will also be beneficial to do it in stages as I want to know and feel the difference in the parts that go on the car as it will help me when developing my race car when I get it.

The reversable labor was my only concern, I didnt know if it was reversable, now that I know that, I'm going to try it next weekend at Barber.

Let us know how you like it. I'm sure that you are going faster than I would be at the track so you may have different results accordingly.
For my use, so far, I am loving it!
I just went back to looking at some of my comparative data from Road Atlanta and the one place at RA that's really slow is where I need it the most, and where I'm having problems at tracks with many more spots like it.
The car will be very fast, but I really only plan to use it as tracks where there arent high speeds, becasue I'm not adding a LSD initially. I know how much grip I have to work with.
