I have a friend seriously considering taking the plunge on a well cared for 2002 996 TT, with tiptronic.

Please provide feedback on any know failure issues and general feedback. I realize many fellow 6speeders probably wouldn't consider a tip. The TT wouldn't be a daily driver, it would mostly be driven on weekends.

Most people have Tips love it. Most people have 6speed hate it. Don't hear failures often, but maybe people just don't post them.

 

Never heard about problems on this model.

Get a PPI (inspection by a qualified mechanic not affliated with the seller) and if it passes...well, welcome to the club. I'm happy with my Tip fyi.

 

I love the tip.... it makes life so much easier... if your going to race/track it.. then go 6 speed

 

Thanks for the feedback, I'll let my friend know. It's interesting that there's so much more negative feedback on 2nd gear pop out failure on the manual 6 speed.

My vote would be in favor of the tip as well, especially in traffic and stop/go situations. The '02 tt is definately a beast, good condition, good price, etc.

 

Tips are great drag cars.

 

Huh? Most people choose what they want. Wether you choose a manual or tip, the decision is based on your needs and preferences. I don't know of anyone with a 6 speed that hates it. I personally love a manual.

 

It is not really clear...but I think he meant...tip owners love tip; but 6 speed owners don't like tip.

 

I have an 02 tip modded with 24/18G's, Promotive ECU, greddy boost controller, BOV's, 5 bar FPR, Fabspeed exhaust, and BMC filter. The thing is a blast to drive and no problems to report. Tell your friend to drive one and if he likes it, get it tip and all.

 

I love my TIP. Wouldn't drive a manual again. Gotten too old and lazy

 

Maybe hate is too strong of a word. Based on my observation, Tip drivers don't usually say things about manual. But some manual drivers do have opinions about Tips. Nothing personal.
