just saved $3000 with one phone call

been using same insurance broker for last 10 yrs and always assumed i was getting the best rate for my cars. was online this a.m. and decided to check out different comp. rates. called geico-gave them entire breakdown and recieved call back after accident and violation check and told me i qualified for their ultra policy. i was presently paying 7k /year for three autos and he quoted me $3900/yr. just recieved insurance cards via fax and will be effective midnite. i knew my old policy was high (one accident over five yrs ago) but didn't think savings would be that good.i recomend checking your present policies and compare if you have not in awhile.

Went through the same senario when I bought my TT. I have been with the same company since I was 20. Over 20 years. I shopped there rates about 5-7 years ago and they were still giving me a good rate. When I went to insure the TT they said they would have to special bid it as they do not have a standard rate for that type of car. I shopped around and found rates for the TT (and two other cars) that were cheaper than what I paid on my 00 C2. At the time the new rates for my 01 4runner were the same as for my new turbo I even asked them several times do you have the correct VIN and type of car? They assured me they did. Rates have not changed much at all through 2 renewals yet. Still happy and hope I never need them... them being Progressive

It really depends on where you live. For example, I got a great rate with Geico in New York, but when I moved to Philadelphia, their rates were very high. I tried Progressive and my payments went down to $5K for three cars instead of $10K with Geico.

Bottom line: shop around. One company will not have the lowest rates every where. When you do, get a quote from all of them within a two week span because they all seem to run credit checks now and your score is a factor for some insurers. Keeping all the credit inquires within the two week span insures that your credit score does not go down due to all the inquires.

buy a minimum of 1 berkshire hathaway a or b share (appx $2500) and you'll be eligible for an 8% shareholder discount (in most states) at GEICO :-)

Drbill, I have Geico also and they have been good, are your coverage levels with Geico the same as with your old company?

exact same coverage levels.i think many of us fail to periodically shop around and fall complacent with a slight increase year to year with existing companies. i highly doubt they would call us and say-your license and accident report has been clean for five years, i can reduce your premium a couple of grand! another interesting point brought up to me by Darren is that if you surrender your plates temporarily and garage the car you can cover the car only for theft and pay hardly anything for insurance for a temporary period of time.

Drbill, I agree with you on that one, they will not call us to save us money for driving good but they will raise us real fast, nice savings you got, 7k for those 3 is way too high.

You have owned that stock for as long as I've known you.... I'm sure it helped with the GT.....

The more details I read on the GT the more I think there will be many CA vacations in early 05.. Hmm, I already started looking at flights...
