The Official Vivid Racing ECU Flash Review Thread

I wanted to start a thread to allow those that have had a Vivid Racing flash give their feedback. Whether it was a basic K16 or K24, hybrid turbo, or even a Garrett setup.

How was the purchasing process?

Were you able to easily do the download with your flash cable?

How fast did you receive the updated file back?

What was the first thing you noticed about your car?

Has your driveability changed?

How is your gas mileage with new flash?

Was the price fair for what you got?

If you were to do it again, would you buy Softronic?

If you have a dyno chart, drag time, or even a pic of your car racing, POST IT!

We are happy to read the PROS and CONS of your experience.

Vivid Racing ECU Flash information is located here - http://www.vividracing.com/catalog/softronic-m-390.html

Well lets see. I don't feel like filling out the whole thing, but here we go

I've had Softronic since I put my GT3071/K24 hybrids on. The car runs excellent, although I still need to get with Scott and do some fine tuning because he has never done a beast like this because it's not everyday someone gets their hands on these turbos outside of a EVOMS setup. My A/F is still a tad ***** rich at idle, but is fairly consistent in the gears. For never seeing the car in person or being on the dyno with it his first file was no where near lean or anything even on 19psi. It did exactly what he said it would do at the exact same power. Which is pretty amazing that he knew that off the top of his head. If your reading this Scott I need to get with you about the MAF stuff. I'm ready to scare the stock motor

As far as purchasing and sending the file it was easy. I told Scott to take his time with the file because I sent it to him before I took the car apart. He got it to me WAY before the car was done.

My gas milage has gone up because I'm not always going into boost because of the big turbos LOL! I'm sitting pretty at 21.5mpg in the city/highway mix after 700 miles.

The drivability is fine with me. The only thing that needs to be fine tuned is a few things and I know soon as Scott gets my Durametric file he will be able to have it perfect.

The price I got was more than fair. Dan and Scott are awesome people to work with.

I don't want to put up my dyno sheet because it looks REALLY ugly because we didn't have the right amount of fans on the dyno so it peaks power really low and is just a squiggly line from there on because 90-95* weather and not enough fans make your dynos look weird. But it did make 587rwhp @ ~5000rpms on pump gas boost and 652rwhp on higher boost (but it will be higher soon when Scott and I work around an issue Im having). My track times speak for them selves. At 1.17bar (17.2 psi) I ran a 11.5 @ 130mph stalling the car damn near on the line because I left PSM on. I know it should have gone low 11s at about 132-133 on that pass if it didn't fall on its face on the launch.

I wouldn't have gone any other way honestly. Dan has awesome customer service and Scott is a genius. He had an answer to every one of my questions that I had for him and did not mind spending an hour on the phone with me explaining everything about the workings on the car. I can't wait to work with him again when I get my next few upgrades install and try to break the 700rwhp area (just for show purposes, well and maybe 1 60-130 run )

Softronic ECU Flash

There's a lot to respond to about the Softronic Flash--I have the advantage of living fairly close to Vivid Racing. First I have to say they did a superb job of installing all the modifications on my 996TT X-50. Vivid Racing customer service is truly excellent. I have the Garrett 650 HP set of modifications installed. A external wastegate system, billet aluminum oil cans, new headers, a completely new exhaust system. a 5.0 bar fuel regulator. You get the idea and due to my addictive nature, like many on this forum, I kept adding extras, Forge diverter valves, a silicone hose set, Greddy ProFec B boost controller, iridium spark plugs, and a Clutch Masters stage 3 clutch, and a custom billet plenum, on and on.

One of the key elements in originally convincing me that I wanted Vivid to modify my car was reading about the Softronic Flash--I was extremely impressed by the entire process, how well thought out the product was, the ECU unit did not need to be removed from my car, that Softronic uses OEM tuning equipment, and that the tuning was customized to the environment in which I would be using my car.

My car was fast prior to the Garrett 650 kit modifications and the Softronic ECU mapping. It's an X-50 and the ECU had already been reflashed with a different company's product. From the moment my 996TT was returned to me by Vivid Racing it has run perfectly. Unbelievably it does not burn a drop of oil--my garage floor is immaculate. More importantly the car has been totally transformed in terms of performance. It runs flawlessly, idles smoothly, turbo lag is just not an issue, while insanely fast prior, the car really goes berserk at 4,000 RPM and just pulls and pulls. I attribute the level of performance my car has achieved largely to the Softronic ECU Flash holding all these modifications in tune.

I drive my car in harsh, frequently nauseatingly hot environment and the car always runs like a total champ and consistently kicks butt. When my car went to the track recently a professional driver took the wheel. He declared my car astounding fast and a perfect set-up for track or street driving and he's right. My Porsche was turned into a total beast of a machine. If floored it goes like a bat out of proverbial hell, if not my car is totally tractable around town and easy to drive in traffic. Enough said, the Softronic ECU Flash is incredible and accounts for my cars overall performance. I'm a bit disorganized so I don't know where the heck the dyno sheet is right now. The price was amazingly fair given everything that was done to the car and that I kept adding new modifications to the list.

Before buying the Softronic flash, I look at GIAC and FVD. I leaned towards the Softronics and bought it mainly due to the customer service I get from Dan at Vivid. The reflash was very easy to install especially as I have done it on my other cars. After the reflash, I felt like I had a totally different car. The response was great and I could feel the extra power. The only negative point that I have is that in 2nd gear, the car will stutter unless you have WOT but I have got use to this. Great product and service all round. I would have no hesitations in purchasing this again.

Seems like some iridium spark plugs would help

My turbo would do the same thing about 5000-5500rpm. WOT would be fine. It turned ou to be the MAF- NO cels or codes

You shouldn't have to get used to stuttering, no?

Dan,

My first impressions from leaving my shop were much improved throttle response, running/idle better than before, no issues with the LWFW and of course a lot more power!

I had some issue with getting an internet connection to upload my original file, but that was mainly due to the fact that most shops here didnt have a connection I could use, once I got the file to the Softronic server yourself and Scott were helpful in getting it done quickly and accounting for the mods I had on the car. I think it took Scott 3 days to get it back to me, which from what he said was mainly due to the unusual flash that was already on the car.... no idea what it was.

For reference I added the 650 kit with the upgraded injectors, as well as Denso plugs and GT2 intercoolers at the same time, I'll post my dyno sheets when the clutch is broken in, hopefully that will be soon, its tough to not dip into the power yet......

So far very happy and impressed with the ability to tune the car so well remotely, I still want to hook up an AFR guage to see how the numbers are, but I'm sure Scott could work his magic if there were any issues, running lean/rich, but that doesnt seem to be a problem =)
