Top Gear Tests the Nissan GTR - Stigs time...
plain and simple, every GTR test has been by a GTR supplied by Nissan not a regular production car. The power to weight ratio of a GTR and a stock 996TT is nearly the same and much less than a ZO6. Granted, traction might be better, but both the ZO6 and the 996TT are lighter cars by a wide margin.
In any case, you would have to be dumb as a stick to believe the propaganda by nissan, a very clever campaign to push the GTR. Tool seems to be part of it, lol. In any case the GTR is at the bottom of my list. Even though the vette may be a dime a dozen, the ZO6 is much more car and worth much more in the long run as is the 996TT.
Also the One Lap of America 996TT got first place and smashed the GTR who got 14th. The 996TT's total cost was under what the GTR retail price is. nuff said.

I do not expect it will do well against your car but your unbiased opinion of the car would also be worthwhile if you get to drive it a bit. I would like to hear the opinion of a TT owner.

It seems everyone who is criticizing the car has not actually had seat time in it. It is always the wiser move to actually obtain real world experience before taking a position on any topic. If you have driven the car, then I respect your opinion.
Having driven both cars, one after the other (and racking up substantial miles over two weeks), I can attest the GT-R is the real deal; it is not smoke and mirrors.
Is it a Porsche -- Of course not.
well this is the second time im back not the 3rd. im not flaming any other cars just saying it how it is. the facts speaks for themselves and the excuses are endless.
alot of people welcome the compeition as well as a car such as the GT-R moving the car game forward forcing others to up the ante while there are many others that are simply threatened by the car which i dont understand.
this will force other car makers to really offer better performance in their next vehicle versus them just upgrading a little here and there and low balling their customers.
this is a great day for a car enthusiast and im just glad im able to experience this in my life time. that we have all these high HP cars offering different things able to do such amzing things

TOOL just quit it, they don't like the GTR, they don't like the fact that a lowly nissan is giving their porsche or z06 a run for their money. you won't be able to change their opinion, so why bother. if it bothers you to see the way they are putting down a such fantastic car then don't visit this side of the forum. just sleep on it
A guy that knows how to drive, owns a TT and will actually be instructing in a GTR....
Lets stop all this bullXXXX arm chair analyses and let Tom give his opinion on how it drives. And beyond that remember that it is his opinion so depending on his driving style it may or may not agree with everyone, but at least he will be possibly the most qualified out of everyone of us who has thus far posted (no disrespect to the GTR/TT owner, but the fact that Tom will have experienced both on the track, at least we can find out what its like at 8 or 9 tenths).
And to the GTR owners, I am sure you will flame Tom if he says the TT is better, because he is more used to it, because this is a porsche biased forum etc etc, but to me it will be about the only post with any substance on this thread so far...

Heck, me personally, I hope the GTR is better in Tom's opinion just to shut up all the blinded Porsche guys up on this forum
I also await Tom's post.
Question: is the car limited like in Japan to open HP on tracks but not on the road...and if so, is the track being used by Tom and his student on the Nissan "map"....that could be a huge gotcha...
Plus, are there pads for the gtr...I assume SRF will work...etc.

Not to start a fight (I own and respect both cars), but have you even driven the GT-R.

Count me impressed. Even more so if Top Gear tested the GTR with run flats. I can only imagine what real performance tires will do for the car.
If you're going to be honest, a street encounter in any of these cars is going to come down to the driver.
I especially appreciate the PR beating Porsche is taking for not really pulling out the stops in recent years. I mean really, why does the 997 come with only 30 more HP than the last 996? They're getting lazy. The turbo has gone from 400 HP in 993 trim to 480 HP in 997 trim. To top it all off the GTR has better turbo response than the heralded VGT turbos. Maybe that's due to higher compression and smaller turbos, who knows. Plus, time will tell, if the block is going to be as stout as the GT1 engined P cars.
Do I still love my Porsche? You bet. I'm literally planning on keeping it forever.
With the bad economy and fuel prices some of these cars are going the way of the Supras, etc.. of the mid 90s. I definitely plan on picking up one or two cars in the upcoming bloodbath. Do you guys know that in 96-97 (when Toyota couldn't sell any turbo supras) you could buy a nice clean used turbo supra for the mid 20s? The wake when production stopped spiked prices for almost a decade with the M3 being the real winner. All the Japanese car faithful found themselves in, and discovered the superb traits, power and engineering that German cars provide.
I really doubt the next generation cars will get any more power. More likely they will lose weight and go to smaller engines and bigger turbos which might not be a bad thing. The truth is that Porsche is least likely to be affected by gas prices in their flagship car. If you pay 150K for a car, you can care less about $4 gas.

This will be about the only post worth reading.
