Stereo Upgrade for MOST System
I recently added an apple car play setup and should have done long ago. but everything worked until it didn't as my sub was failing.
now I have great features and paired with I-phone but need a separate amp to run the sub and didn't want to spend a grand +/- on just the amp and add'l labor.
I miss having bass frequencies and now my "all tweeter" system sounds like ***t.

I'm still on... but when i switched back to apple from android, I can't find the damn forum in the app store, so I'm around A LOT less. Anyway, I made a custom mount using a piece of plywood that I covered in carpet. then, I bent some metal ( i think it was a galvanized simpson strap from home depot), drilled out the mounting holes, painted it black, and used the factory bolt and one of the attachment points for the CD changer on the fire wall. Unfortunately, my car is in storage at a buddy's house otherwise I'd run out there and take some more pics.
If you look close in the pic above you can see what i'm talking about. But yeah, totally custom. I got the carpet from a local car audio shop - thinking back on it - I had them use their spray glue and carpet to wrap it for me. It came out great. The carpet matches so well, that it is impossible to tell. I screwed the amp to the plywood and then bolted the plywood to the firewall.
It just sits there and is held in by the one bolt that you can see. It's totally secure and I drive like a maniac.

Which amp is that in your install?

I'm running a kenwood amp mounted it to the Cd changer bracket.
im sorry but I don't actually remember since not only did I not do the installation but had to go to an indy car stereo place after Best Buy messed it all up.
whatever they did, it works but I need a separate amp now ( a 5 channel? ) to run the sub which is currently dead weight.
I should have paid closer attention because I do recall pulling the old amp out. but if I bought a "new" amp it was not sufficient to handle the 6 speakers PLUS the sub.
I think thats how I left it. "working" but without the sub = bass. in other words, I wasn't spending another grand post "Kenwood apple car play unit" plus installation.
