Melted exhaust valve,what causes this???

Hello,I had a problem with my third cilinder and the problem is a melted exhaust valve,no cilinder or piston damage, anybody nows what causes this?
I have a 2001 with K16/24 with upsolute flash set for 1.1 bar boost (garret 1 bar actuator) and I have an AEM a/f meter and it shows at full throttle between 11.5 and 12.3.
Thanks

Could be an injector or cilinder related problem too. Sorry to hear that.

Upside it that you can get creative now.

That sucks man. Sorry to hear. Valves usually get like that when you run lean (hot) from what I know.

I assume that cylinder 3 has it's own injector? If it got clogged, I can see that happening too.

Of course I've never taken anything larger than a two piston, two stroke motorcycle engine apart...

This is, has, and always was the concern I had over the Upsolute tune. I'm so glad I got rid of it...

That's a "LEAN" condition that burned that valve... I'd be surprised if you didn't have more than one, and I bet all of your guides were pretty beat up.

I would like to know what caused this, our 996 motors are now starting to pile on the miles. I have a spare motor in my garage which is also pretty handy.

killerbee is infamous around these parts
Is that valve from the bank where the wideband was installed?

Two basic possibilities:

- Lean due to malfunctioning injector (in opposite bank to where the WB was installed so no change in signal).
- Timing was retarded. Burning mixture out the exhaust would toast a valve without too much trouble at all.

Off topic but it is beyond me with what the costs are for engine repair that people put their faith in AEM products.

Sorry to see that happen. Good Luck

Yes that's the valve where the wideband was installed but I also have the brockway which reads 2 banks, what I noticed also that a/f ratio dropped to 10 for a few seconds and car was holding down but a minut later a/f was again 11.5 and car performed well but suddenly I heard somme rattling and 1 cilinder died..Upsolute wrote the programming special made for my car.I will also test all the injectors to see if there's a bad one which also could cause this
I hope this is a picture from the face of the valve

Yea, that's what they said about mine too. I think it's time you should find a new tuner.
