XM radio??
XM radio??
Anyone have XM radio? Can it be wired into the stock stereo? I'm not much of an audiofile, so, stock sound quality is fine, I just want to listen to O&A starting in October.
In my opinion, it sucks. I am in Denver so other markets may be better. The selection etc. is great but I run into way to many low signal spots. WHen that happens all you get is static. Imagine jamming to a cool tune and all the sudden STATIC.
Not sure if I would do it again.

I believe you can use the Aux imput of the Becker to hook up an XM roadie. I've heard this done before, however, there is a catch in that it can only be done on 2001 and older cars. (Those without the fiberoptics, not sure which year that changed for the Turbos) Those with fiberoptics, the last I heard it was a costly venture to attempt to hook something of the sort up with those of us who have 2002 and newer models. (CDR23) Currently, I am running XM in my car, however to achieve this, I had to yank the entire stock system out and replace it with an Alpine headunit to support it.

Did you install the OEM kit? That is what I installed... Never listen to regular radio in the FX any longer....

I have it in my escalade and except for Howard Stern, I would never listen to the radio. I have a Pioneer 6500 and it was easy enough to install. I have been thinking about adding it to the TT (pioneer 7500) but i just dont want the funky antenna placement.
Just had XM installed in my '04 996tt
Fellow who did it is Dennis (201-960-8421) - he does all the aftermarket stereo installs for Jack Daniels Porsche Audi and came highly recommended from the dealership.
Comes to your house and the installation takes about 1 1/2 hrs. He charged me $450 and used an XM Commander kit (functional, but not pretty). He removes the standard in-dash 4 CD holder, reuses the plastic front fascia, and installs the XM control module. Integrates it into the stereo system so that I just need to hit a preset on the FM channel and it switches over to XM - then all XM selection is done from XM control module. This kit comes with a mini antenna, which he places up against the front windshield on top of the dashboard. I was doubtful about the reception, but turns out I get as good reception here in north NJ as that of the XM in my '04 Audi S4 (with the ugly external fin antenna). Nice clean installation and I'm quite happy with the system.

It's 2002 and older. I have an '02TT with XM and it was a piece of cake. Used the aux port on the Becker for the XM receiver and mounted the antenna on the Bose speaker box just below the rear window.
