Front camber issue... Resolved!

I posted a while back about putting GT3 lower control arms on my car with the hope of getting to high negative camber. I had a problem of rubbing in the front of the wheel wells where the side radiators are.

My indy resolved the problem by removing the wheel well plastic cover and relocating the radiators forward about an inch. This was described in another post that people referred me to. This took care of the problem, and I am now at -2.5 degrees on the front, and looking forward to trying this setup on track in a couple of weeks.

I think you need to check your caster.

Oak -

Forgot to mention that he did that too. Ended up pressing out and rotating the bushing in the control arm. That helped, but wasn't enough to resolve the issue.

Thanks.

you need to replace the bushing with a GT version or the solid type. this of course if you want an ideal caster.

jon, I think I have a set of GT ones with rubber insulation. if you need a set. are you on solid type? or are you running stock turbo?

what size and offset wheels are you on?

It's the GT3 bushing with rubber insulation that came with the GT3 control arm. There is some compliance there, but there is also compliance at the pivot for the caster control as well. I didn't think that the extra $500+ for the solid bushing was worth the expense, at least for the moment.

I have a set of stock turbo wheels with Hoosiers, another with MPSCs, and another set of Champion wheels with Kumhos for the street. They all rubbed about the same before, but not anymore. All are stock sizes 225/40-18.

Thanks,

Jon

Jon, Oak is right, and I'm really gonna eat crow here...

Went to an INDY shop while they were "clocking" a guy's thrust bushings. Those solid adjustable bushings that are sold by some of the vendors will do the trick, in conjunction with rotating the upper strut mounts.

I watched them set a guy's GT3 up with 3 degress negative camber and about 6 degrees caster in no time... I was actually pretty amazed...

Damn, I'm done questioning Oak when he tells me something!
