Installed my AutoTop today...

Kind of a slow weekend I guess, so I have been installing some of the things I have purchased but just had not gotten around to. Yesterday were the speaker covers and now today the AutoTop.

Those of you with cabs can appreciate this. The AutoTop is a switch made by Bahn Tech Motorsports (www.bahntech.com) that installs between the convertable top wiring and the switch on the dash. You will need to pull the horseshoe shaped trim piece to access the switch. I was able to do this by using a plastic spatula and working my way around the trim to slowly disconnect the attachment connections.

Once installed, you can just touch the dash switch and the top will go up or down all the way without holding the switch down. Seems kind of minor, but it is a really nice convenience.

You can purchase it directly from Bahntech.

Not difficult at all. Just take your time removing the trim piece. After that, maybe 10 minutes to install. Just follow the wiring diagram they will supply. It is nice, and does not seem to interfere with the ability to open or close the top while moving as well as does not prevent the top from stopping at too high a speed.

When I ordered mine, they did not give me any options. I ordered mine back in January, I just got around to putting it in. What options did they give you?

I'd really like to have this option, but if I leave my top down for long periods (which I do regularly), when putting it up, I must help it close the last inch or so within a few seconds or the fuse blows and then, back to the dealer (can't just replace fuse). Dealer re-set can take a couple of hours. They say problem is due to the top material requiring stretching and recommend putting top up regularily. Dealer has been good about performing re-set, but this is a PITA. Anyone else have this problem?

this is what they sent me.
You have two options:

1. We can ship you an AutoTop with the most common timing:

Top up 19.6 sec
Top down 15.2 sec (needs to be exact so the windows don’t start rolling
back
up after the top is down)

If it does not work to your liking it can be sent back and we can
reprogram it for free.

2. Time your vehicle and email us the timing.
Here is what you can do.

1. Get a stopwatch and time the top down button depression
duration to
at least 0.2 sec.
2. Time the top up button depression duration the same way.

You will get two times:

Top up 18.5 sec
Top down 14.4 sec

and i keep my top down for several days at a time and have never had a problem closing the last few inches....

Mine must be what they call the most common timing. It has worked perfectly since installed. If they can custom time it though, it might be worth the effort to run a stopwatch and see what you get. Maybe it does vary from car to car??
