Here are some pointers that we learned from this 3 hour “experience”

  • DO NOT aggressively push and pull the bumper. The corners and most likely the paint and fiberglass will crack
  • Normally, you would want to have the bumper slip into the middle section (see arrow in pic below) but If you get a MISHA bumper, you might want to have the middle section of the bumper sit OVER the section b/c it won’t allow you to push the bumper to sit in far enough.
Bonus: Stay tuned for a custom little addition I’m adding to the front. It has not been done before so hopefully I’ll be done over Christmas break and will post pics in the new year. Stay tuned!

Merry Christmas everyone!

Don't worry, I haven't forgotten. I am waiting until I put the stock wheels back on for a apples to apples comparison.

Techart bumper ground clearance

Here you go:

Side: +/- 4"

Front corner (fang) : +/- 4.75"

Middle of front bumper: +/- 5.75"

Once again, these are back on my stock front wheels so this should give you guys an idea. One other thing to note, the TA front is a lot "longer" than the stock bumper so keep that in mind too. I now have to put a peice of 2x4 in my driveway to safely get up my driveway, although I don't need it on the way down.

wow so that means it is pretty close to stock since there is like 1/2 inch difference from your measurment. But like you say, it is longer so it might cause more trouble going down the driveway... hmm

Putting 2x4 everytime you want to take your car? man that would bug me.

oh and by the way, thanks for taking the time to explain everything and measure everything, really appreciated. Now if only someone could do that with a GT2 front bumper...

I think it will be a good idea to start a thread to have all the measurement with different front bumpers and lips for 996TT. It will be useful for people planning for upgrade and worry with ground clearance.

What we need are:
  • what bumper / front lip
  • ride height of the car (measure fender height)
  • clearance height of middle, corners and end
  • maybe measurement from center of wheels to the longest point of the nose
Please add your thought if I miss out anything. So Lets get someone start measure a stock TT!

To be honest, I picked MISHA's b/c it was considerably cheaper than Precision Porsches (about $700) but if I didn't have a close friend doing the work meticulously and with a hook up, I am positive the costs saved will easily be eaten up by the amount of extra time spent to make it fit right. I can't comment on how much work it takes to fit Precision Porsche's TA front but if the fitment is like his TA rear skirts, I would venture to say that MISHA's would not be worth the money saved. Just imo.

Swed,

Thanks for the kind words...but I think you gave me a negative rep

Btw, I already did a DIY for my rears here. I don't plan on getting the sides but if I do, I'll definitely do one.

Did you have to reposition the center radiator? I heard with the TA and GT2 front bumper that you needed to reposition (change the angle) the center radiator. Basically, by changing the front bumper to a TA/GT2, the flow to the center radiator was not at 100%.

Anyone hear the same thing?

Ididn't have to reposition the center radiator. I think you might mean the center radiator duct, which I did have to extend outward with spacers.

The OEM 996TT bumper and TechArt bumpers are similar in this regard...both direct the center radiator airflow under the car (exiting air that is). The Porsche OEM GT2 bumper is directs the exiting air above the front hood. This serves 2 purposes...gets rid of the heat instead of directing it back towards the engine and creates a little bit of downforce.
