Guys, I installed the 997 shifter in mine a couple of weeks back. I was waiting to wear it in a little before posting.
Now, I wouldn't say a dramatic difference but definitely an improvement on the stock.
Initial impressions - Smoother, a little shorter and more precise; although I would expect things to improve replacing the 6 year old worn shifter. 1st and 2nd still a little tight to get into (worn syncros?) maybe too much to expect that to go away.
The part that really made me happy though, I gave the car to my wife last night to see if she'd notice the change in the shifter (she hadn't driven it in a couple of weeks). Point of reference; normally she'd run on a flat and not notice. She noticed & loved the new gear change

I maybe looking at making it a shorter shift over the next few weeks. I'm going for lobbing maybe 3/4" off the shaft. 'Box flush & oil change in the near term.

never ever let your wife drive the car. If you get a divorce and she likes it, your screwed. I am making my car as undrivable as possible, loud, sticky clutch, hard clutch pedal, insane acceleration, that way she's scared to drive it.

You're not thinking like some of the bitter divorcees I've met - they'd keep it in the driveway so you'll never be able to drive it again

that is why you gotta get them their own car. It's like that with fine watches and stuff. For every 3 fine watches I bought I got her one nice one and it made her happy. You get a nice car and you get her a nice one then she doesn't want yours.

Installed tonight. Found $8.75 in change from the previous owner was lurking under the console. Hopefully now I'll be free of some errant rattles.
Measured the before and after throw distance from 3rd to 4th.
Before: Approx 5 inches
After: Approx 3.5 inches

Looks like we've got a 30% reduction on our hands.
As for impressions, the shifter is more precise and has way less slop. As for "smoother" than stock, I don't know. You can definitely feel the gear engagements much more pronounced, but I wouldn't go so far as to call it notchy.
I liked it way better than the B&M I tried out.

My 997 shifter has definitely smoothed out as it's worn in. I also changed the trans fluid, noticed a change with that too.

mark, thanks for the link. It looks like its a link to the vendor and not a direct link to the product. Do you have a direct link to the exact product youre using? thanks/

Steve,

i am looking to purchase this part in the next couple of days from you. from reading this thread, it looks as though it is the "stock" 997 shifter. does porsche make an oem "short" shifter for the car? maybe that would be just as smooth as the stock shifter and provide a bit shorter throw. please let me know. thanks.

Wink

Ive just ordered mine (997 short shift) from Sunset Porsche out of Oregon. Could not beat thier price anywhere! I also got an Agency shift link from Vivid, but could have save a few buck if purchased from e-bay. Wasnt even thinking about a short shift until this thread and the cheap oem plastic shifter link failed, it should be arriving today. Cant wait to install and drive it for the difference.

I've had my 997tt shifter on my 996tt for about 2 months now and I love it. WAYYY better than my B&M short throw. Faster, smoother shifts.
