Why did you switch back from RWD to AWD
#31
I've been considering the RWD conversion for a while, based solely on the feedback here on the 6. But then I realized I bought my car BECAUSE it was AWD. I always hated putting my hotrods away for the winter. If I did it, I suspect I would go back to AWD for that reason. and yes, I'm too lazy to switch it back and forth season to season, regardless of how "easy" it is. If I wanted a RWD turbo car, I would have kept my twin turbo 69 Camaro, or my 94 Single turbo Supra, or my 98 turbo Corvette. or my.....

I'm on the fence also, my car is an 03 X50 that comes with the LSD rear and was told that I can save close to 130lbs. I'll probably give it a shot in the spring, I'm going to drive a friend's car this week with the conversion and see what it feel's like. I'll let you guy's know what I think.

I can't find any right this second, but there are threads detailing EXACT component weights of that conversion...

It is a big difference, again that's what I was told by a mechanic. I would also like to know exactly, especially if it is 130+lbs.

I switched back and posted why. It's complex, but I think with LOTS of work it can be a good mod. You need coilovers, LSD, and to add some ballast back in the front or else it will bounce around like a beach ball (that drove me nuts) It's also very harsh on the gearbox on the track, dont know why, but I could certainly feel it.
The RWD accelerates better though. If you're drag racing/60-130 its a no brainer.
For me it's not the way to go, but anything other than road course, it should be fine. Mine wasnt scary at all in RWD. You may wish to keep PSM on for a while to learn the limits again. I just dont think it's worth all the work when most of that can be targeted towards tuning what the car was built with and you'll be just as fast.

Well I had coliovers with higher rates anyways and I tried softening them, but it was still bouncy. It's just natural with the loos of front end weight.

I wonder what is done to the GT2 to get it compliant. I assume the GT2 does not have issues even though I have not driven one, people would have complained about that.

The GT2 has completely different suspension geometry, different pickup points, springs rates, dampers, and less overall weight. It's also got lighter exhaust, and no back seats, no rear wiper, lighter rear decklid, to offset no front drivetrain.
A RWD TT does not equal a GT2. You may be able to make one as fast, but it will take tons of work.

if you want a rwd get a GT2.
the actual costs to do a rwd conversion correctly, ie to get the full benefits of a rwd to handle remotely to a GT2 would cost you more than to just buy a GT2.
and you'll have a nicely buggered up Turbo worth less. throwing good money chasing what?

OK found it...73lbs of weight loss with RWD conversion.

which is what everyone has been saying. That really isn't a lot of weight to remove the extra safety AWD gives.
