2001 996TT price check

Hey guys,

My business partner is about to buy a seal gray 2001 turbo for $39k. The car has 60k miles and is bone stock. It is clean considering the high mileage.

Is this a great deal or just the current market value? The seller is putting pressure on him, but I said to sleep on it and see what else is out there. Personally, I think he should spend $5k more and find a low mileage (20k) car.

What do you guys think?

Thanks

That price sounds about right if it is indeed really clean.

I think for someone just looking for a DD or doesn't care about putting on miles onto the car, it sounds like a good deal. Personally, if I had the money, I'd buy a high mileage TT and just use it as a DD and drive it till it dies.

That's a lot of car for the money, even considering the mileage, IMO.

I would still definitely get a PPI, especially if the seller is putting high pressure tactics on him.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

I checked out the car with him and it appears to be clean considering it has over 60k miles. The exterior has a couple of minor scratches and light rock pitting on the front bumper and windshield. The interior is clean except the seat bolsters are showing a fair amount of wear. The Carfax came up clean with 3 owners.

Do you think my partner could negotiate a better price or find a lower mileage car for $40k or less? Do you think 2001 values will continue to drop further over the next 12 months or have they bottomed out? Is it hard to get an aftermarket warranty for a 2001 turbo?

I am the one pushing him to buy a 2001 996tt instead of a new car. He originally wanted to buy a brand new 2008 Corvette Z51 for $40k (10k off MSRP), but I talked him out of it. I want this to be a good experience for him and hope the car will be reliable.

Thanks again
George

$39k for 60k miles is damn cheap for what youre getting...I'd be surprised if you could find one with ~20k miles for mid $40s. For really low miles, probably closer to low 50s+.

Is that car in Houston? My brother looked at one recently, had a history of electric problems so my brother bowed out.

get a PPI and ask the guys who have maintained it the history.
