I have to politely agree with this... The Alloy supports are as light as a feather anyway and the mounts are pretty heavy... they would add great protection as they are fairly strong. The main point here is safety and engine protection... the slightest bump on the rear end could be the cost of a motor or tranny. There was a recent motor that had the slightest of bumps and I can remember clearly that either engine/tranny housing was all smashed up.

Not nearly as bad as the guy recently that was running the cup car doors without any side roll bar protection whatsoever.

all my front and rear bumper stuff is off. see the below pics. those are low impact bumpers and are surely not going to save your life. the engine as you can see is completely behind the main frame. I dont recommend doing any of the bumper removals as I have done. My car is a track car and I am in the middle of a saftey cage. that being said removing anything from the rear of this car especially helps.
thats also why I have no mufflers and run straight pipes. we took a supports off and put on the cup car tow hooks that retract.

+1 only removal safety feature if it is a track car with cage. On a track you probably will have a 5 point seat belts and a helmet. 10 lbs less in the rear is NOT going to help you that much getting on or off a single smooth banking 270 degree Fwy ramp.

I really like the holes where the bumperettes use to be...is there a way for me to keep the bumper support and just remove those?

Ok tvm for all the advice guys, in the end the aluminium cross member stayed on but I did remove the rear tow hood thread block and bolts, the exhaust heat shield and the metal strip by the engine catch. I guess in the US bumperettes alone are a worthwhile removal as they are not even required in Europe.

TonyTurbo is infamous around these parts
After removing stock bumper&supports and replacing them with carbon fiber bumpers is the only way to really save some weight!!!!

while on this subject, does anyone know if there are lightened bumper struts to replace the factory steel ones that connect the bumper to the body/frame? I thought that there was RSR struts or something like that made of aluminum.
