Should I clean out all the race gas from my tank?

I have found that, for sporting around town and terrorizing the locals that my car runs really well at 1.2 bars on a mixture of one gallon of Sunoco Maximal (leaded motor octane of 114) to 4 gallons of pump.

My car does not run well on straight pump gas, even at 1 bar.

For full kill, IE 1.5 bars I run VP C 16.

However, most of the high hp crew I know alternate a tank of pump for every tank of race gas they run in order to clean their system out.

My question is, is there any liability to always having a little leaded race gas in the car?

I drive her about twice a week, so a mix of 19 galons of pump and 2.5 gallons of race will sit in the tank for more than 2 weeks.

I run my car on MS-103 all the time so I hope there is no problem with a steady diet of race gas.

BTW, what are you paying for that C-16? I asked the owner at my speed shop what a 54gal drum of C-16 was and he said $578. I asked how much to deliver to Houston and he said he would find out. Is that a better price than you are seeing?

MBailey,

That is a very good price for the C 16...Can you PM me the shop?

103 is fine, it is the lead that creates problems.

As Markski says "if we own these cars then buying expensive gas should be no problem right?" It is good to run a pump gas after a C16 based on my experience in Cali. Sean.

My race gas expenditures end up around 2-3K per year so it isn't an insignificant expense, especially considering that a barrel of oil is $35. C 16 should be $500 a barrel delivered right now if prices were in line w/ everything else.

The only real functional risk I know of, due to the lead is that it eventually
kills the catalytic converter. The damage is cumulative, according to the
amount of lead you process...

No cats on my car, Joe. Will depress spark plug life, but I was wondering about any other types of corrossion/problems from always having a little leaded fuel in the tank.
