Buying a used 996tt
Buying a used 996tt
Hello, I am a Pcar noob considering joining the 996tt horde.
I have searched and looked for nice 996tt online and offline and I have found couple that I am interested.
Is there any specific stuff that I need to look at before I make the purchase?
This is actually my first time purchasing a Porsche and a used car so I have very little experience.
I have digged through the forum and found out about some tranny issues but that's pretty much it.
So I ask for your expert help!
Thanks in advance

I would look into it as I would any car. Make sure it's boosting right or you could have boost leaks. If it looks good, drives well, take it to a trusted dealer/shop, and have them do a PPI on the car before you buy. History is important also. IMO, a car that you know the history of (previous owner, was he a fellow porsche fanatic, etc) is worth more than one that is sitting at a dealer and has been through multiple auctions.
Good luck with your search and future purchase. Use the search function, this has been discussed many, many times.

and thanks everybody for helpful inputs. I'll look into those advices.
Everyone is different. Some charge $200, some charge $400. What ever it is, it's less than a car you don't want. Make sure to take it somewhere neutral, that has YOUR best interest at heart, not the sellers.
+1.
I think an '02 with a reasonable amount of mileage is the best 996 value at the present time.
thank you ttboost.
so are local dealers around seller neutral enough to be a safebet when I want to check out the car? I mean the car could be anywhere in the country and I might live far far away from the car.
Many of us around the country/world have good relationships with certain people at our local dealerships. I know the shop manager quite well at ours and feel I could arrange a fair and honest evaluation if the car were in my area.
You never know who the seller knows. Bottom line is: You don't want to take it somewhere the seller may have an influence over. By neutral, I mean someone that wants to give you what you pay for with no agenda. If the seller is on the up and up, he will bring the car to whoever YOU want to inspect it, at your cost of course. You can ALSO tell them what you want them to look at. There are threads here deatailing what should be looked at. Do a search.
