OT - Buying a Kart today!

In 5 mins I am going to leave work and go buy a top-of-the-line CRG shifter kart w/ a full telemetry setup. Since I started karting a few months ago I have become more addicted every week. In fact, I have never found a hobby more addicting than this in my life. For anyone that has not tried shifter kart racing, and has been considering it... DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is there anywhere that lists kart tracks around the country? I'd be curious if there is one in my area (central VA). Will a cart fit in the bed of a full size pickup?

How much does a top-of-the-line kart run?

Scott, the kart and pit equipment for a weekend will easily fit in the back of a full-size pickup such as your titan. IMHO the best way to go with your first cart is to find a used, well-sorted example with spare parts (like an engine, couple sets of tires and some of the mor basic tools). Shouldn't cost more than $5-7,000 to get up and running. If you want everything all brand new top-of-the-line stuff then $10,000+.

I used to be into carting a while ago when my dad didn't mind paying for it, but being in college with a mediocre-paying job cuts down on the hobbie$$$

gt3scott go to ekartingnews.com and you'll find everything you need to know, but a top end CRG or Tony Kart with a TM motor will run you about 13k new out of the box, but then comes the mods like anything else.

I think the best bang for the buck in karting today is the new rotax rm1 tip kart. It requires a fraction of the maintenence as the 6spd chain driven karts and its a spec class so the outlay is far less for parts and equipment, and they are competitive laptime wise with 6spd karts and have an international series to compete in.

popular mechanic's article

RM1 Site

full karts are running about $8k delivered and ready to run.

Anyone interested in kart racing (non-shifter), come join us tonight in Sterling, VA - near Dulles airport. These are practice sessions before the PCA league starts up again in January.

Yeah I've got a Rotax, tons of fun. I don't even race competitively. It kind of sucks to sit around literally all day just to compete in 3 5-10 minute races. At our local track every member gets a key to the track and you can go whenever you want. The best fun is to just get a few guys and head down there in the middle of the day during the week. We have the track to ourselves and just go nuts until our ribs can't take it anymore LOL. I've been super busy lately and haven't been going much, but definitely need to get back out there soon ...
