5 BAR FPR a Myth?

So I've been looking around and it seems everyone has "crushed" 4 bars. These are literally crushed on top presumably to preload the spring for more tension.

What's the Deal?

Buy one from FVD ,these are oem 5 bar FPR. Stamped 5 bar in the FPR .

Either will work, many of the packages out there are running crushed units and the tunes have been adjusted to compensate. We've tried to get the OEM version from Bosch recently and they are having a difficult time keeping them in stock whereas the crushed versions are readily available. I've run one in my personal car for over a year and a half now with absolutely no issues on both pump and race gas.

We have tested 3 different types: Hand Crushed, Machine Die Crushed and OE motorsports 5 bar.

The machine die crushed and OE motorsports 5 bars both work very well.

Ari,

Google Sakata Motorsports. That's where my REAL 5 bar came from. They are the distributors for Bosch Motorsports and are in the OC. Oh they were also cheaper by about $50 than any of the sponsors. They also carry MAF's, again cheaper than the rest on this board.

Titan has the 5 bar FPR listed on their site for $99.

It's a modified 3.8 bar regulator. Call them and ask for the original Bosch Motorsports 5 bar FPR, I bet it's not $99

Please explain "crushed". I have not heard this term used in this context before now.

Larry, Basically the housing is crimped down onto the spring to cause more spring pressure.

I've never understood why guys would put a hand crushed $100 part on a $25,000 motor. I know some folks are on a budget (I'm the budget DIY king, it seems) but some things you just can't scrimp on... If it doesn't have machine stamped 5.0 on it, I won't instal it, on my car, or anyone else who wants to use my shop... Not gonna do it...

BTW, I have a nice DIY for this one running around somewhere... I know Kevin has it over on his site.

Interesting... I wonder what the ratio of people out there running the true 5 bar vs the hand crushed version is.....
