AMS - they have a badass all wheel drive dyno...

Advanced Motorsport Solutions, is pleased to announce the arrival of our new MAHA LPS All Wheel Drive Dynamometer (imported from Germany). A dyno so highly regarded that it is the only dyno used by major manufacturers such as Audi ,Volkswagen, Porsche, BMW, Mercedes, ..etc. In fact Audi/VW consider the MAHA such an integral part of working with their vehicles, that they have listed it with a factory tool number and you can purchase it directly from them if you so wish.

umm...no.

Mustang Dyno's are usually associated with "Clayton" type in ground Dyno's.

Garret's place is the only one I would take my car to. A mechanically linked AWD Mustang Dyno. www.giacusa.com

Having spent many hours on a wide variety of chasis dyno I have one big reservation in the use of the MAHA dyno at AMS.

It centers around the run time. The last time I had a car there the time spent at WOT on that dyno was about 40 seconds. Every other dyno I have ever used has had run times from about 6-14 seconds. This places much more stress on the cooling system and is not a realistic representation of air speed vs load.

IMO if AMS was willing to adjust the run time to a more reasonable amount they would be an option.

Got to agree with Jeff on this one. The upside of the AMS dyno is that it will calculate true crank HP by measuring drivetrain losses after the pull then add it to WHP to come up with crank HP. The fan setup is the best I have ever seen on any dyno. I made the mistake of walking in front of it and almost got knocked over. The intake is on the roof to supply fresh air into the dyno room.

The GIAC dyno has poor cooling and fresh air is quickly consumed since they only use a open bay door to supply fresh air. They use more realistic times on there dyno pulls though.

Someone needs to talk to the AMS people and convince them to change the pull times. If they they kept it under 20 seconds it would be hands down the best option.

PS Jeff your car is slow!

So you guys are saying that the AMS dyno is setup the best, but the prolonged pull times give innaccurate readings... or are they just too stressful for the car for your liking?

Hi T,

One point I would contest a bit. I was the strap monkey at GIAC for the 996tt shootout. The intercooler fan setup for the rear engined cars is better at GIAC than a single front mounted fan with a 40ish mph air speed.

LAPD (Los Angeles Performance Division) has an AWD Dynojet. I believe they charge $125 for 3 pulls for AWD, and $75 for 3 pulls for 2WD.

No Dyno-Jets for an AWD 996. The front and rear rollers are not mechanically linked.
