996 Turbo / GT2 Turbo discussion on previous model 2000-2005 Porsche 911 Twin Turbo and 911 GT2.

Is there an easy way to defeat the 996TT rear wing from raising?

Steve,

Glad to hear it worked. I thought that it would and I believe that all years will behave the same as yours and mine. No need for jumper wires or alternate wiring harnesses. Just pull the two connectors. This could not be any easier. The funny thing is...people have been asking for years how to do this and the answers were always so involved that it seemed difficult to accomplish.

Is there a second wire besides the one that Steve shows tucked away....I unplugged the one that I accessed by taking off the plastic cover...is there another? Mike

To disable your spoiler WITHOUT ANY WARNING LIGHTS, do the following:
1. CAREFULLY disconnect the two microswitches from the passenger side spoiler ram (they are both under the plastic cover) and tape them up being careful not to compress the switches as this would trigger a spoiler failure warning. Put them in a small plastic bag and tuck them away.

2. Disconnect the electrical connector which is plugged in to the hydraulic spoiler motor in rear deck. (This step is optional but ensures that there is no power going to the motor)

3. Disconnect the connector from the spoiler switch in the dash. (This step is optional). If you DON'T disconnect this switch and then press it you will get the spoiler failure light.

If you follow these steps then the spoiler will stay in the down position without any warning lights. You could actually remove the whole hydraulic system at this point and the spoiler would stay down since it is held retracted via spring pressure in the rams...

Hey pwdrhound,

Could you please comment on my related thread here if you have some time: https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...n-came-up.html

I did follow those steps when I originally disabled my rear wing, but now that I have removed the entire hydraulic motor assembly I'm getting errors for the first time. Thanks!

That's weird Steve. I've got everything disconnected and get no warning lights and messages. The wires going to the electric spoiler motor are all disconnected so it shouldn't matter if the motor is still attached to the car or not. I'm really baffled by this. Are you sure you didn't accidentally disturb the microswitches when you were digging around there removing the motor and the hydraulic lines? The switches are very delicate and it doesn't take much to damage them even when they are wrapped up. A little pressure is all it takes. I would start there by taking a close look at the microswitches and making sure they are in their static position. Good luck.
