Engine cut off at 5000rpm - no CEL
Hi
I was on the highway in 6th gear cruising along at 55mph and decided to overtake a car. I proceeded to downshift into 3rd gear and floor it. Around 5000rpm, I hit what felt like a rev-limiter. Any ideas? It's maybe the second time in about a month. Some facts;
-Never had a CEL
-23000 miles 2003x50
-exhaust (fabspeed) and intake (evo)
-no other engine modifications
-Been driving for 30 minutes on highway, engine was at right temp
-I only use 94 octane gas
PSM was on but didn't see any light flash ...
Thanks
Rob

Yep. I am getting this same thing intermittently about the same RPM in higher gears.... will be getting plugs very soon. I am just trying to time it with other upgrades since it's the whole "as long as you're down in there....." deal

I had the same thing happen a few months ago. 1st time it happened I got CEL, ABS, and PSM light. The all went away after I restarted the car. Everytime after at 5,000 (around .5 boost) the cars a$$ end shock like hell and power was gone - and I never saw any more CEL-ABS or PSM lights. Turned out to be the plugs.
I will say the new plugs make all the difference in the world.

Thanks guys, the consensus seems to be plugs so I'll get that taken care of ASAP.
Yes, it felt exactly like a rev limiter.
thanks

Maybe a MAF issue but less possible due to low amount of mods. Plugs may be also the next one to look into. Disconnect MAF sensor on top and drive it. If it does not happen again then it was the MAF. If it still cuts at 5K rpm then plugs.
