$60K for 996 GT2 w/ 19K miles??

Guys- I"ve come across a GT2 and have talked the owner down about $15K to around $60K. Is that a screaming deal for a GT2 with 19K miles and a clean carfax? The local dealer said they are giving around $52K as a trade in on these so I"m guessing this isn't too far off.

Any help or tips would be appreciated.

That sounds like a screaming deal to me. Get a PPI and verify it is a real GT2.

+1 on what the others have said thus far. Deal seems to be really good. Agree on verify it is a real GT2 and not a turbo converted to GT2 trim

What local Porsche dealer or dealer located in Palm Bay, Florida is giving 52k in a trade on a Gt2? How many Gt2's do the residents of Brevard County get to see in a lifetime, much less seeing enough of them for anyone to take them in on a trade for 52k? Give me a break. Dude, no disrespect, but I grew up in Palm Bay, it's a one horse town. If there is a Gt2 within 250 miles of Palm Bay, it's a miracle. Hell the average income of most of the residents of Palm Bay is about half of what a clean Gt2 sells for, which in most cases is about 75 to 90k depending on year, mileage and condition. Hell, 52k is the average price for a double wide out there.

AH HAHAHAHA- you definately are a Palm Bay native!

I'm a transplant (USAF), the car is not located in my area.

I have been working with the Melbourne Porsche center for a used 996TT and in passing conversation they told me about a GT2 they offered ~$52K for on trade. I wasn't actually there to see the car or witness the deal so it could definately be BS...

Does anyone have any recent pricing on GT2's to speak of? I just want to make sure $60K isnt too much....

There is no such thing as a true Gt2 that hasn't been wrecked and repaired or one that hasn't been tracked extensively (high miles) that is going for less than 70k; and that is on the low side. A clean, low mileage, no stories '04 can bring up to 90k; an '02-'03, 75 to 85k. That Porsche dealer is full of crap, but that doesn't surprise me coming from Melbourne, where spelling Porsche is a challenge. Glad to hear you are just a transplant. Don't get me wrong, Palm Bay/Melbourne is a great place to visit. Sebastian Inlet and Indiatlantic are paradise, but as I said it's a great place to visit.

I know if it's a real GT2 that's a sweetheart deal but 60K seems awfully low. I'd be very careful.

Well I'm going down at lunch today for a close look at the car. I ran the VIN in the decoder at Renntech and it comes up as a GT2, I also ran the Carfax and it came out clean.

I'll be sure to check out the VIN on the body panels/doors, and take it for a test drive.

The statment- "if it's too good to be true then it probably is" was established for good reason. I'll let you guys know when I get back.

Wish me luck!

Well I went an inspected the car and took it for a test drive.

The VIN matches on all the panels I checked, panel fitment was good, paint was even, no sign of overspray. Definately a GT2, not a conversion.

Checked the oil cap- no condensation.
Checked the coolant, no sign of oil.
Checked the PCCB rotors, no cracking- surface appeared rough, but no gouges.
No 2nd gear pop out, clutch felt heavy but engagement was good.
Temp gauge and boost appeared normal.
No leaks on garage floor or under engine compartment/transaxle.
All underbody panels present.
All service records.
Car was checked out 2 weeks ago at Champion
Clean carfax
Clean interior

Bad-
Curb rash on all 8 wheels, 1 was bent
Dent on fenders above both rear wheels (small but still unusual for a $200K as new car)
Aftermarket Wheels are too big for wheel wells and seem to be rubbing
Front bumper/hood were repainted due to rolling into a parked car

Guy was really nice- seems to be recovering from some medical/personnel difficulties so he needs to unload the car.

Thoughts anybody??? Should I pull the trigger? Any possibility of buying a warranty on a car this old?

Thanks for any help.

Is the dent above both rear fenders from being rear ended ?

It sounds like you may want to stay away.

How well do you know the GT2? Have you driven one?
Are you an expert driver?
Do you mind always being scared to push it everytime you drive it?

Big decison if you were originally looking for a 996TT and then just thought,
aw hell, I just get a GT2 (two different types of buyers).

I have owned 7 911's (4 of which were 911 turbos), I would be more typical
of a prospective GT2 buyer

Good luck,

MK
