Question on 996 power needed for C6Z06
I don't know the answer to this, but can tell you that a C6 Z06 makes 505 crank horsepower and weighs about 3150 pounds (trim dependent) with a full tank of fuel. Obviously our 996TTs are about 300 pounds heavier, so figure you're going to need a bit more than 505. This is over-simplifying a bit, but just use a calculator and you can figure out the power to weight ratios of each car, and adjust upward until the 996TT has a clear advantage.
When I was shopping for my 996TT, I happened to drive a lightly modified C6 Z06 on the same day as my current car and it (Z06) was noticeably faster than my lightly modified 996TT...those cars are really beasts.

My k16/24 kit has had zero issues even with mildly modded Z06s. Here's the problem though, I'd say that for every dollar they spend to mod theirs to 500WHP, you'll have to spend 3. The Z06 comes from the factory detuned. Adding a few simple bolt-ons or a cam and remapping the PCM really rewards the owner on them.

I would say about 600 crank is fairly safe unless you happen to encounter a very good driver like Divextreme (Scott). For modded Z06s, probably a good rule of thumb (for full weight AWD cars) is if you have as much at the wheel as he has at the crank you should win.

Depends on what you are talking about (beat them on road racing course
or on a 60-130 mph (roll-ons) type pull.
I am an expert in this category since my very good friend (who I am helping move to new home today) Eric (ATOMIC Z) owns a stock 2008 Z06
and a highly modified 590 RWHP (all motor) 2007 Z06. I ran him one day
in his stock Z when my boost controller was dead (.7 bar) and we were dead even. (later that day I ran 11.6 @ 122 mph (approx)).
K24/18g basic set-up will do the job. std K24's with good tune would be
close I would think.
But if they do headers and a tune (or throw in a new cam), it becomes more difficult...

Overdiscussed subject, but always fun.
My car is now as close as is measurable to his current 590 RWHP set-up
on long pulls. This is also confirmed in that we both trap 134 mph and
we both have run 6.9 or better 60-130 mph.
Cheers and beware of the Z06's
Combo you need to Walk him- K24/18's, 5bar, A GOOD TUNE! and an air filter! Thats All!!
The ZO6 is a Handfull! I just ran my buddy and from a Dig we are neck and neck at 1.1 bar, from a roll at 50 he gets slaughtered if you can do him starting in second gear at 4000rpm and you don't miss a shift he is toast. Good luck!!

As a Z06 owner i can provide some feedback..
What year is the car and what mods does he have
Vettes in general are relativley cheap to mod because there are so many used after market parts out there. Also an exhaust and intake can really open up the car. Full exhaust intake and tune with mild engine work can put him +100hp..
Vettes have a hard time hooking up on stock rubber.. if he has run flats, hammer it at the line and he will spin out.
A good driver with good tires can sneak up on you, and they can be very hard to catch.

it's amazing how fast ZO6's are even at altitude. There is a guy up here running a ZO6 with E85 tune and exhaust and he's running 11.8 at 121 or so, and this is at 6000ft. That is some serious power considering altitude.

I also have a stock 2006 Z06. It feels a lot stronger than my 02TT which is also stock. I would like to close the gap betweeen the two. My TT had an after market exhaust on it which I took off and put the stocker back on. It was too loud. I did notice the car was slower after putting the stock exhaust on.
The streets out here in Vegas are really slippery since it hardly rains. I think the 996 would have an advantage being all wheel drive, but it lacks power and is heavier than the Z06. I'm thinking 550 crank would make it a drivers race and 575 crank should just edge the Z out. Looks like I'm going to have to step up to new turbos.
