K24/18g car.... what boost is safe with 104.
K24/18g car.... what boost is safe with 104.
I have a 55 gall drum of Sunoco 104. My low boost is set for 1.15, and my high boost is set at 1.25.
At the track i was running the 1.25 bar and the car went through the traps at 131mph. Is 104 good enough for a 1.35 bar setting. The car has stock injectors... and a 5 bar fuel regulator.
thanks.

That really is a question for your tuner, not us. You can't just turn your boost up, unless you have the fuel and timing trims to support it. Octane is good, but quantity of fuel is another. You have to tune for higher boost levels.
A proto tune is good for up to 1.4 bar bit shift at 6500 and NO higher... it will lean out into high 12s and low 13s if you go past that... plus the 18g is not recommended to shift up on top as it dies out of steam...
be a good idea to hook up a AFR meter and then you would know... that is your lifeline...
if you have a durametric you can do it too.. logg the actuall lamba values bank one and two and ideally you should be around .82 lambda... that multipied by 14.7 is 12 to 1 AFR.. so that is your guideline... you want to be at no higher then to mid 12s on 104...maybe even as high as 12.6 but thats it.... otherwise just turn the boost down and watch your afrs come down to a safer number.. good luck

Thanks. It is a Proto tune. I have not logged it yet.. but will hook up with colorinc since he has the program. One of these days i will hook a wide band up to it. Been to busy fixing the "botch" jobs the mechanic of the previous owner used. lol.
But the car runs strong for what it is. Stock intake, pipes, hoses,gt2 intercoolers, ect. Just has the tune, turbo's, EBC, DV's, and exhaust. I also believe the car lost 1-2 mph because it had a stock clutch in it at the track.
It feels a bit stronger through the revs now.
do the dura.. Tim knows.. that is is best way to be safe... low to mid 12s MAx on 104 octane.... and do not rev out to redline.. even stop at 6200- trust me I know.

At the track.. I would short shift first a bit.... but would get close to redline the rest of the way. I did a couple short shifting runs.. it would go 128-129 through the traps. On the short shift runs.. it would put me into 5th going through the traps. It did trap best on "close to redline" pulls. I never once hit the limiter though.
turbos is maxed...
stay in 4rth on top but shortshift all others... your leaning out will give you a bit more HP... bit if it hits 13s it will pull timing back...
do whatever works for you as long as ur not in 13s...

your 18's will not go any higher, even if you boost more... They tend to feel slower according to my butt dyno. I tried messing with the same set up basic as you had and afr's were key to my boost ****. I crept up till afr;s said thats it!! then I played with shifting points and launching. You have great set up but dont blow yourself up trying to make a statement! 104 is ok but not for 13's my brother!! learn to drive the setup you have! You will need a better clutch sooner than later too!! I roasted mine in less than a week!

I did the clutch already.
oops on the clutch! and as marski said already.. short shift and 1.3 is about the equivalent of what I ran. My boost numbers were lower but I ran my times when it was pretty cool!! If I recal it was oct-nov!!!! so... dont need as much boost! I wasnt so much paying atten to the BOOST... I was paying attention to the afr;s and creeping up and up till I found a balance from top of 2nd to 4th.... it fluctuates but I set kinda of a baseline that was reasonably safe for all gears.. Then I went to town on shifting! Mr DJ does know a thing or two! listen as I did and you will be really happy camper!! I was!
