HELP. Shifter problem

Just put my 03 turbo into first gear, seemed to go in hard and travel further than normal. Now stuck in first. Shifter flops back and forth. Does not seem to be connected to anything.

Just researched and found that some plastic piece broke. Are there instructions anywhere on how to replace? Also, what is the part number?

Pop the shifter boot/cover off. Your cable(s) likely came undone. I think you need an allen wrench to fix it. Make sure the shifter handle is in a perfectly vertical position or your linkage will be off a little.

to get to it properly you ahve to take it all apart. Very easy but there are some hidden plastic covers for some of the screws for the arm rest and such. Ill have to look for link but trust me in 10 min you are done!!
and ttboost is right. It may very well be a clip or something that came off. I played with my shifter so it shifted into 1st closer to my leg so that 5th wasnt so far away. If you are slightly mechanically inclined you will figure it all out.
2 flaps on side of radio console come off, the the arm rest and everything else you just figure out.

www.bmracing.com/bmracing/installation_instruction/67.pdf

click on that link to give you some guidelines. Its all the same practically. Once in ther eyou can figure it out. If you dont mark the cables then it will be off to the right or left. I found out by accident but then I tinkered around with it till i found a place where I like my arm to reach for all gears...!

I can see that the cable is not connected to the bottom of the shifter. Are there going to be any broken pieces? Can I just put it back on after I take the car apart?

Yup, just slide it back in and make sure it is TIGHT! You might be able to slide your hand under the passenger side of the console and sneak it in. I've had to do some roadside surgery as this happened to a friends car...

OK, I took off the center console. The black plastic piece with the socket for the bottom of the shifter came off. There are 4 white plastic arms in the socket. One of the them is broken. What do I need to replace? Part numbers?

Just spoke to a mechanic at Manhattan Motorcars. He told me that I need to replace the black piece, and that he will lend me his special tool needed to replace it, and that he will have them ready for me to pick up. How cool is that.
(Do I really need the tool or can I do it without it. Kind of a pain the butt to bring the tool back to him)

Yes. I used the instructions to take everything apart. I am going to pick up the part from porsche. I just cannot wait to get evoms part. I need to fix the car today. I just wanted to know if I really needed the special tool to remove and replace the part.

Borrowed the tool. It is a plastic thing that clips onto the shift **** and centers the stick. Probably not necessary but didn't have to deal with making sure the stick was centered in neutral.
$20.05, 40 minutes total work (not including over an hour to get to and from dealer. Manhattan subway), and car is fixed.
Thanks for everyone's help.

That's the tool I thought you were talking about. When I bought my 997 shifter, it came with one. Mine was green, but I've seen them blue too...
Glad your up and going...
