I think i am in the market for a tt a few questions inside..

I have done a fair bit of research and defentially have gone threw atleast 5 pages of threads, But i need some accurate answers...

How fast are these cars in a 1/4 mile bone stock?
How fast are they with a software upgrade?
At what point do you need to do a clutch?
At what point do you need to do internals?
intercoolers?? Which ones?
Do you guys use water meth injection? Do you guys have good tunes for W/M?

And last but not least if i was to get this car i am thinking of doing thte k2418G turbo upgrade...Thiis seems to be pretty good for street driving. Do these seem priced right? turbochargers.com/store/product_info.php/products_id/2149

Thanks in advanced and looking for any tips tricks or ideas you could give me. -Rob

In order:
Low 12's, high 11's if you can drive.

Assuming a K16 car, K16 flash usually adds 75whp and 75wtq

Usually a stock clutch quits around the 500whp mark.

so far it seems 650-700whp is the limit on stock bottom end. Jury still out though

Still have stockers, but many vendors here sell them

I have an Aquamist kit and I love it. Definitely need to tune for it.

18G price seems fair

WOW thanks for the super fast reply! Dumb question.... How do you desipher between a k16 car and one that is not? Is the k16 car a x50? Are they generally much more expensive? Also What will a chipped (software upgrade) TT run in a 1/4 mile ( regular and k16) Also what turbos does the non k16 car come with?? BTW i have k16's in my audi s4 just he cold side wheels though so it really doesn't count ;-)

Most 996tt's come with K16's. X50 cars and GT2's have K24's. X50 might cost a little more, GT2 will cost a lot more. Tunes cost anywhere from 1500-2500. 1.4 mile very subjective. These cars are not great drag cars.

Quick answer: If you plan to mod it dont pay extra for an X50. They have bigger K-24 turbos but are laggy and dont add much in stock configuration. I dont think the X50s cost much more than the reg TTs these days.

But if you buy an X50 car, you already have the K24's and it WAYY cheaper to make the 18G's. About $1500 for the 18G upgrade and waste gates.

There are some that have achieved the 700whp level, but 600whp and a little higher is VERY common now, with the appropriate supporting mods, like exhaust and fueling and possibly intercoolers or meth.

Confusedgarage is infamous around these parts
Great thread and great responses. Not to hijack at all, but I am in between a C6Z06 and a TT, so I was wondering a lot of the same. Very helpful guys, much appreciated.

How are the trannys holding up on K24/16G cars if they aren't abused?

You probably mean K24/18G cars...if you don't abuse it, probably last forever...the weak point is usually just the synchros, so poor or aggressive shifting will tax them. Most people, when it's time or necessary for a rebuild use the GT2 steel synchros. After that, you gotta work real hard to ruin one...

It seems pretty hard to find an x-50 for a realistic price, when I was looking a few months ago everyone wanted at least 5k more. Realistically you are going to pay a couple thousand more at the least so there is really no savings to start with an x50. Your best bet is getting a lightly modded car off the forums here. Even without upgraded turbos the exhaust, clutch, dv's, etc. add up doing it yourself and you can save alot buying a car with the basics.
