Tranny Update...
Robert got to spend some time driving my car last week, before getting it up in the air, and he was able to get a feel for what the car is doing with regards to shifting, clutch engagement, and the notchy feel of the first gear/reverse exchanges.
One thing we're absolutely doing is going with the Porsche Motorsports Shortshift kit, along with changing out the cables. We're going to upgrade the clutch material to Fibertuff material on the flywheel side of the clutch. We're also going to do the GT2 Hydraulic Clutch upgrade.
The internals of the clutch are going to be inspected, and we're going to look at the smartest and most commonsense upgrades to the internal components. I'm not 100% sure I'll change the gear ratios, after looking thru some of my log book and traqmate data and seeing where I'm shifting and at what speeds these shifts are taking place. I'm still doing comparisons with the spreadsheet data provided by Christopher!
We'll also go ahead and have the cases tapped as explained earlier. I will not drive my car on track anymore without an appropriate way to cool the trans fluid...More updates this coming week. I expect to get some pics and a better understanding of what is needing replaced internally, besides the mainshaft and the four plane bearing.

Mike,
Do you have part numbers on the Porsche Motorsports short shift kit and cables
and who you call to procure such items?
Are these the factory items that come on a 996 GT3 Cup Car ?
thanks,

...not being a road race guy and never really having anything particularly worthwhile to add to any of your threads, I've never posted, although sometimes interested. I have to take this opportunity to say that I am awestruck and somewhat inspired by your initiative, passion and inability to quit making yourself a better driver and racer. Good Luck Mike.

I greatly appreciate the comment TTboost!
Marty, I think the shortshifter is the same any pnca motorsports dealer or vendor sells. I will double check and post part numbers for you though!

Larry, The car is absolutely going back on track... That is the ultimate goal. I still have a small handful of parts to finish getting for the suspension package to be considered "complete", and I'll want to get that new front bumper cover on the car. Right now I'm also thinking about upgrading the brake system to the Cupcar master cylinder and 15inch front rotors. If that happens, I'll also be upgrading the wheels to 19s.

Latest news is that the first and second gear sets were fubar and the mainshaft will need replacing. Everything else in the internals of the tranny checked out well. The differential may have issues (still looking at it) and the driveshafts has play.
We're getting ready to send the clutch disc back to Clutchmasters, but I'm on the fence. Robert said it looks good... Robert is ording the Evoms kit and the short shifter kit this week, and the rest of the bits as well... Bearings in the nose cone were good, and all other parts/gears/syncros are in very good condition. Cases look great...
This is very good news!

Yea, Larry, I think it was the wife seeing me go off track in the miata one to many times... She was like "I feel so much better about you in the turbo. It's a safer car!"
I'm sitting there laughing, thinking I'm never hitting 170MPH on the back straight at VIR in the Miata!

Mike-As usual, you are the man.
I'd be careful in what I say in the title of my threads though, some of those left coast guys might have been hoping for a hemaphrodite update....
Look forward to the pics!

Holy crap... I spit Scotch out my nose... Fortunately it was cheap single malt!

Come to think of it, I'll ask my indy to have a look at the release bearing he installed back 18 months ago to make sure there's no issues with mine!
I hope to get the car put back together and back in my garage by the end of October... I may try to make the December Daytona HPDE event. There's also an outside shot I may get to go do a test day in a couple of Koni Challenge cars later in December if it comes together... We'll see...

just for sake of knowledge what is the part cost of the main shaft and 1st n 2nd gear sets stock and different gearing?
are you doing brass or steel synchros?
LSD?
from some previous custom clutch design and pioneering i have in my past i think you will be happy with fibertuff on your clutch disk
it wouldn't hurt to have some clutch fulcrom (clamping force) discussions and maybe get you a bit more holding pressure so your not in the clutch again next season. what flywheel are you going to be usging ? steel/aluminum?
