I could take them down to HRE in Carlsbad, but I've heard they can be very pricey, plus I'm not entirely certain I'm keeping these for the long haul.

Thanks.

Thanks.

I think the best advice you're going to get here is send them back to HRE and yes, they are VERY pricey...

I can probably buy a set of used rims in this market in near mint

condition for about the same price HRE is going to charge to refinish. Hmm.

That is absolutely true...which is why I still have mine, with a few scuffs and NOT powdercoated...

Your best bet IMO is Performance Wheel Repair (performancewheelrepair.com) in Walnut, CA 91789...Their prices/quality/service are very competitive and they offer SAME DAY SERVICE I have dropped my car off there several times with the wheels/tires mounted...Came back after a few hours and BAM everything was ready to go Here's a few shots of some of my wheels I have had refinished there...

I have quite skillfully managed to jack mine up pretty good lately but will not be sending back to HRE for anything. I am pretty certain they would tell me one of mine is unrepairable and force me to drop big coin on at least one new wheel.

But you're driving on it?

(I know, probably OK for driving but once they get it they won't be able to ship it back...)

What DOES HRE charge for refinishing anyway?

A

Well it ain't pretty! But it does hold air and does not vibrate at triple digit speeds. I do my own testing. This happened 2 months ago.

I think HRE told me they charge $350 or 375 to refinish 1 wheel. I got a quote locally from a reputable/recommended wheel shop to repair and powdercoat to match matte-black all 4 wheels for $700. I will likely do that at some point.

Wheel Enhancement in Culver City. They do great work and they're a 6speed sponsor.

My wheel tipped over and landed on the sunny side up. Took the wheel to Performance Wheel Repair and they repaired it in within 1/2 hour and charged a very fair price. I almost wanted to tip them.

However, if you are going to have them powder coated, beware that according to HRE, others use rather higher temp to cure and this may and will cause premature fatigue in the forged aluminum construction. Please do a search and you can find more info on this.

I bring this up as another 6speeder had encountered this issue and HRE gracefully offered him a great deal on new wheels (can not be repaired as
structural fatigue is no no).

I would say shop around, but do give HRE a call.

Good Luck,
