My Texas trip is hanging by a thread...

OK, I've had this "popping" sound for a few weeks now. Under acceleration between 4000 and 5000rpm only. I thought maybe it was tune related as it has gotten cooler here, and a little more boost is inevitable. Tony had it for 2 weeks, driving and datalogging on different days with different temps and conditions. He did not find any detonation, misfires and the car is throwing NO codes!!! We didn't have a chance to get it on the dyno yet.

Within the last week, I have installed new plugs, new coils and a new MAF, and it still does makes the noise!!! I have new o2 sensors coming Monday, but not feeling too confident. The timing was such, that I thought the LW battery wasn't doing the task, so yesterday, big battery went back in, same problem.
I also turned off the Meth and lo and behold it does NOT make the sound at .8bar!!! I took a friend for a ride last night and he said it doesn't sound like detonation and it sounds like the exhaust is coming apart??? This weekend it is going on the lift and the exhaust might come off and start looking deeper for leaks and such. As time goes on, I am thinking it is less serious and more annoying, but it is there!!! After weeks of trying to figure this out, I am reaching out to the community. Any ideas?
Thanks...
Mike

I was leaning towards DV's too, but they are only 5000 miles old and the boost is holding fine? It's like a popcorn popping sound too, not honking...

Were you still holding boost? It was really cool the other night and I actually spiked 1.5 so I backed off on the rods a bit too. I have no problem holding 1.3 on my stock gauge right now? I can get DV's from my buddy almost immediately.

You should be able to pin point the problem on the lift most likely. Does it feel like you lose power during the popping? Keep us posted.

No. Thats what's leading me to believe its a nuisance noise and not serious? It doesn't seem to lay over or feel too sluggish??? I just want to be sure and find it!!!

Since it goes away when the meth is off, It might be that your meth is set too high or coming on to early..Is it maf based or boost controller (meth)? it happened to me on one of my cars. I had a defective controller so the car was running way to rich,or maybe you need a smaller nozzle...

Tom

P.S What mix are you running?

That's the thing it was fluttering at times and then it would be fine then it would go into Limp mode, But i just went out with it 10 mins ago and it held nicely at 1.4 bar

I had the strangest problem with my car after some routine maintenance where the car would make a loud bang and something felt like it hit under the backseat. It happened only high boost and it did not happen every time. I could never figure out wtf it was, but it just disappeared one day. Crazy ****!

Hope you get it all worked out bro!

Mike, since you datalogged and found nothing, you are probably right, it is likely a nuisance. Is the sound that popping sound you get at cold start idle, but you are getting it at WOT?

Also to consider..That the change in temperature will make a big affect. it happened on my CTS-V with Meth..Had to be retuned.
