Reset 'brake wear' indictor light
Reset 'brake wear' indictor light
Guys,
I did a brake pad job this weekend, everything went great. No squeal, and i bedded them as described in other posts.
however, the brake wear indicator light is still on. I even disconnected the battery. Still, the light remains.
does this require a computer clearing from the dealer? or do i have a problem?
how do i diagnose which wheel is the problem.
thanks
brian

I replaced my pads this weekend and hate those little buggers. I was expecting a light but did not get one. The wires seem to kink alot right near the entry to the little plastic insert. solder those of broken and makes sure they are not touching metal to metal as well. Also are the seated in the metal notches on the pad plates (as in "not floating around freely")?
Good luck, should be an easy fix if you look closely.

The sensors are disposable.....most dealers change w/pads.
I change pads so often though, I have mine quick-tied back and not in use.
If you have them in-place and pads get thin enough to wear through sensor, replace em.....it's not a reset......it's continuity.

O.k., I hesitate to even mention this because it will expose me as the very cheap bast**d that I am, but here is what I have done when I have worn my pads to the point of tripping a sensor. Take the sensor or sensors that are responsible for the trip (easy to identify...it will be the sensor or sensors that have been worn through by contact with the rotor), clip off the end, and solder or twist together the exposed wire ends (and secure with an appropriate connector or electrical tape) and zip tie them out of the way. You will re-establish continuity in that way, and get rid of the light.
Or you can spring for the 15 bucks or so it costs to replace them (two sensors per wheel). Good luck.

excellent!
Everytime I wash the car the warning light goes on. The breaks had just been serviced by the dealer when I bought the car about 2,000 miles ago - so I don't know if the sensors were replaced, but the pads are new. The light goes off after driving it a bit, but this last time it is still on and it has been a couple of days since I washed the car.
Has anyone else had this issue after washing the car or getting the breaks wet?
