Was the car out in the cold? If so, let it (the screen) warm up and see if that helps. I've seen frozen LCDs do strange things.

That happened on my C2 Cab. Mine messed up after being in the sun on a really hot day. It straightened out after cooling down. Dont know if thats the case for this one or not.

Common problem with the Boxters and earlier 996. Check on Ebay for a cheaper repair kit. I believe the OEM part is over $500 list
