Help Please? How bad is this damage?

It looks as if the turbos that I bought have been damaged in transit, how bad is this?

Thanks

Thanks Mike, I will call Proto today.

I would like to point out that these were not bought direct from Protomotive but a 6speed member.

All is good, I just did not want it to reflect badly on Protos shipping expertise

Cheers

Lee,

Clearly a write off - you should claim against UPS for full replacement value and sell these to me for £50.

Job done

cheers

Jim

Looks like just the W/G can(s) have gotten dented. Might effect the pressure that it releases at, might cause them to stick, might have no effect at all - a pressure pump\gauge will tell you if they have had their operation modified. I'm not sure I'd be too freaked but it is worth testing and if you're uncomfortable swap the cans off.

Thanks.

Is it a DIY to change them?

Lee... should be easy to test them, just get a bike pump and watch the movement.

Yes, two bolts and a pin (as far as I know from other turbos) to remove the WG assembly (canister and the rod coming out of it)!!

If you are not sure what to pull, someone can walk you through on the phone, it will take 5 minutes.

I would not even bother with testing, claim them on insurance and get a new replacement. Even if it tests fine, you will continue to think about it "what it", especially if anything else ever goes wrong.

Good luck!

If Proto then Blouch did the work. Shipper did the damage I am sure.

Honestly the damage doesn't look bad at all and unless the chamber was significantly changed in volume or the seal broken the W/G ought to function just fine... Hit it with a pressure pump and see if it moves at about the right pressure and if the movement is smooth.

Keep in mind that unless it was packaged according to the Shippers published Guidelines, they will not pay for damage. If it was rattling around in a box with only a layer of bubblewrap...not good.

The alignment of the rod may be off- was the plate that mounts the WG to the turbo distorted?

My guess is that it will work fine though...

A

Call the vendor and let them know, chances are they will swap out the W/G's. If you're lucky, you can get by with counting threads on the old and duplicating on the new, otherwise they need to be break pressure adjusted.
