Options and the Mod factor = 996TT

Been into Porsche for 30 years 996TT = the best bang for the buck right now hands down ask any car guy on almost any car chat room.

Low cost to run = 996TT

love my car have a NSX supercharged sitting next to it.very hard to dicide which to drive. When I had my 930 it was fun but cars have advanced allot. = 996TT

In the right hands its a blast to drive with or without any mods.

Not one reason. And eveytime I drive it I find another reason.
got any pics of your nsx and tt together??

displacement was my main concern - the bigger the better frankly. I even looked HARD at the new Cobra Mustangs. However after seeing one in a parking lot I was very underwhelmed and I knew traction was going to be a ***** not to mention the handling would feel fat. So really, what's left? a four banger is indeed less exciting but if the weight was right I'd be okay. Maybe a turbo Miata? Problem with turbocharging something that wasn't from the factory is often emissions - a hassle I don't need. The factory turbo Miata maybe? Still pretty small displacement and I'd be swapping out lots which means if hit I'm screwed. Been there, done that!

Honestly some of the force fed BMW interest me - 3 liter turbos now too. But BMW, especially new ones, will be pricey to modify too and BMW isn't making it easy. A Z3 or Z4 with a turbo would be cool but packaging sux. An audi perhaps? Maybe when some of the nicer ones are used and sold cheaper...

My previous 3liter had some lag, I didn't much like that - 3.6liters is better. So, here I am. I'm not like many others who lusted and dreamed - I had specific desires and intentions. Heck if a Viper had been practical I would've done that but Dodge makes me ill. <shrug> If the GT-R had turned out to be something a little more mod friendly and wallet friendly that too could have worked - alas they screwed that up. Build me a turbo G35 for a decent price and I'd have bitten....

I hear ya, I shipped an '03 Cobra to Austalia for a friend, so I got a chance to drive it for a while - ton's of fun, but wasn't crazy about the cheap Ranger looking interior and no traction....

I come from a 600 AWHP 3000GT VR-4 that ran 7.1-7.2 1/8th and 10 sec 1/4 on street tires and weighed 3400 (after losing 300lbs), so 996TT was a dream come true from that standpoint too.

It seems like GT-Rs are becoming affordable, but I guess the whole transmission drama and modding difficulties kill the deal. I'm not a snob, but even if I could get an even trade, I'd stick to my Porsche.

Fell in love with the look of a 911 when I was 16 (35 years ago), didn't know it was a Porsche back then. Got my first Porsche (924) at 20 and got my first 911 at 23. When I bought my 996TT, I could afford more than a 996TT, but had no second thought.

If I had bought an EVO or STi which were both under consideration I'd have paid a decent amount, piled a bunch more in it, and ended up spending about as much but getintg back FAR less if some jackass hit it. At this price\performance point there's not much to consider if you insist on forced induction - and I do...

hey, I like Sti's I still want one, a 2005. but you are exactly right.

So do I and EVO too. However if I sink $15K in mods into the car and some asshat hits me I'll be lucky to get anything for the car and they will try to claim the mods are worthless - trust me. I'd still own one, in fact if I had room I'd consider it now - heck with the snow we've had this year it would be awesome! But I don't have room unless I dump my DD so the 911 remains my car of choice to mod and have fun with. In the future those cars will be cheap enough that I'll do one or an EVO, just not quite yet.

Thanks all for the comments, some good stuff there. No one in my family is throwing up any red flags, other than the "do you really need another one" quip. I'll just tell them it has better A/C with four wheel drive, they (God love em) don't have to know about the other suff. Looks like it's time to get a sig going, anyone? Mods are acceptable and ecouraged, kind of partial to black or white in my crystal ball , well as far as crystal ***** go these days. I'm open to any suggestions...

I think if I did it again I'd look for a GT2 and white does look damned nice on those...
